RDU-Austin Direct Flights Scrapped as American Airlines Reduces Service

American Airlines will discontinue its nonstop flights between Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), with the service ending in early November.

This move is part of a larger strategy by the airline to reduce its operations in Austin, where several other routes, including those to Boston and Nashville, will also be cut. The RDU-Austin route had been a valuable connection for both business and leisure travelers, particularly given Austin’s rise as a tech hub. The airline had previously expanded its presence in Austin during the pandemic but is now reversing much of that growth.

Despite these reductions, American Airlines assures passengers that they will still have access to a broad network of over 350 destinations through connecting flights.

For Triangle travelers, the change means adjusting to longer travel times and the inconvenience of losing a direct link to one of the country’s fastest-growing cities. Next Frontier in Aviation: Automated Takeoffs to Debut by 2025

Embraer, the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer, is preparing to launch an automated takeoff system for its E2 family of aircraft, marking a significant technological advancement in aviation.

The system, called the E2 Enhanced Takeoff System, automates the critical takeoff phase, ensuring precise and consistent performance while reducing pilot workload. Set to roll out in 2025, this innovation promises to improve safety and operational efficiency by allowing planes to take off earlier and more steeply, reducing runway use and increasing weight capacity. As a result, flights will be able to carry more passengers or travel farther than before.

The system will initially be introduced at three airports: London City, Florence, and Santos Dumont, but expansion is expected. Despite its automation, the system still requires pilot oversight, with full control reverting to pilots in the event of any malfunction.

While experts remain cautious about its real-world impact, the introduction of this system underscores the growing integration of automation in commercial aviation, enhancing safety and efficiency without moving toward fully autonomous flight.

Grilled Salmon with Mango Salsa & Coconut Rice

This Grilled Salmon with Mango Salsa and Coconut Rice is a restaurant-quality meal that you can make and enjoy in the comfort of your own home!

Grilled Salmon Ingredients:

• Salmon fillets – the main ingredient. Rich in protein and nutrients!

• Olive oil – keeps the exterior for drying and sticking.

• Lime – adds so much bright flavor.

• Garlic – adds another layer of flavor.

Mango Avocado Salsa Ingredients:

• Mango – adds fresh natural sweetness.

• Red bell pepper – adds more texture and color.

• Red onion – a little goes a long way here. Rinse it so it’s not so harsh first.

• Avocado – adds a delicious creaminess.

• Cilantro and lime – adds classic Mexican flavors to the salsa

• Olive oil and coconut water – this isn’t a must here but I like that bit of richness and moisture it adds.

Coconut Rice Ingredients:

• Coconut Water – it adds flavor to the rice.

• Canned coconut milk – don’t confuse this with coconut milk beverage. The canned stuff is much creamier and richer.

• Jasmine rice – stick with jasmine, it has more flavor than plain long grain white rice.

How to Grill Salmon:

• Whisk together lime juice and zest, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper in large baking dish.

• Place salmon in baking dish and let marinate 30 – 60 minutes.

• Grill salmon until heated through.

• While the salmon grills, make the coconut rice (you make it like you do regular rice, just with coconut milk) and mango avocado salsa.
