Water in Gasoline: North Carolina Faces Record High Fuel Complaints
North Carolina drivers are encountering increased incidents of contaminated fuel, causing widespread concern and hefty repair bills.
Rashaun Brown, a Raleigh local, expressed unease about the quality of fuel at local stations, many of which have been forced to bag their pumps due to the contamination issues.
The stateβs Fuel Quality Lab has noted a significant rise in complaints this month, about half of which involve water contaminating the fuel. Conditions such as recent storms may have contributed to these issues by affecting underground storage. Authorities are thoroughly investigating each complaint to understand the scope and source of the problem and to ensure such incidents are minimized in the future.
If you suspect that there is a problem with the quality of the fuel you have purchased, you can contact the NC Fuel Quality Laboratory at 984-236-4770. Complaints can also be shared online at this link.
Early Morning Rescue at Jordan Lake Saves Man and Dog Adrift
In a dramatic early morning rescue at Jordan Lake, a Robbins man along with his dog were saved after a boating mishap left them adrift. The emergency began when the man accidentally fell into the water, prompting his friend from Chapel Hill to dive in after him.
This selfless act resulted in their boat drifting away, with the dog still on board. Authorities were alerted around 3:31 a.m., leading to a swift and coordinated rescue operation involving the Chatham County Sheriffβs Office, NC Wildlife Resources Commission, and NC State Parks.
Thanks to the rapid response and excellent teamwork of the involved agencies, the man, his dog, and the boat were all safely recovered.
Remarkably, no injuries were reported from the incident. Sheriff Mike Roberson praised the effective collaboration between the agencies, noting that the incident underscores the critical importance of safety and preparedness while engaging in water-based activities. Read Full Article

Wake County Woman Sues Verizon Over Privacy Breach Enabling Stalker
In a distressing breach of personal security, a Wake County woman alleges that Verizon Wireless negligently handed over her private information to a man from whom she had sought protection.
According to the lawsuit, after meeting the man online and subsequently cutting off communication due to his behavior, the woman believed she had safeguarded her privacy by changing her phone number with Verizon's assistance.
However, the stalker fraudulently posed as a law enforcement officer and obtained a detailed account of her contact information by submitting a forged warrant to Verizon.
This act enabled him to continue his harassment, culminating in direct threats and an orchestrated welfare check at her residence. The legal action against Verizon centers on this severe lapse in protecting customer information that directly endangered her well-being. Read Full Report

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question πππ
Flamingos produce a type of "milk" that is quite unusualβit's red. Both male and female flamingos secrete this reddish fluid from their upper digestive tract to feed their young during the early stages of life.
This "crop milk" contains fat, protein, and blood, giving it a distinctive red color. It's not milk in the traditional mammalian sense but serves a similar nutritional purpose. This adaptation is also found in pigeons and doves, allowing these birds to provide sustenance to their chicks directly.
For more in-depth information on flamingo biology and their unique feeding behaviors, you can visit the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance website, which offers extensive details about various bird species, including flamingos.
