Wake County Schools Race to Ready Laptops for Students Before Classes Begin
With the new academic year approaching, Wake County Public Schools are in the final stages of preparing laptops for all students. Staff are working in a warehouse in Apex to refurbish and recondition Chromebooks, ensuring that each device is fully functional and ready for distribution.
These efforts are particularly focused on providing laptops to new students and those who turned in their devices at the end of the last school year. Safety measures are a priority, with software installed on each laptop to protect students from harmful or inappropriate online content, regardless of where the device is used.
While the district has enough laptops to meet current demands, it faces the ongoing challenge of replacing aging devices as they wear out.
Securing the necessary funds to keep the technology up-to-date is a pressing concern for the school system, as it strives to maintain its commitment to providing every student with the tools they need to succeed in a digital learning environment. Read Full Report
North Carolina Expands Approved IDs for 2024 Election
The North Carolina State Board of Elections has approved 12 new student and government employee IDs for use in the 2024 general election. These additions are part of an ongoing effort to broaden voter access and ensure that a wide range of photo identifications are acceptable at the polls.
The newly approved IDs include student IDs from various colleges and universities, as well as employee IDs from government entities. North Carolina voters are required to present a photo ID to vote, with many options available for those who do not have a driverβs license. The state provides free IDs through county boards of elections and NCDMV offices, and voters without an ID on Election Day can still ensure their votes count by following specific procedures.
Go to BringItNC.gov for more information on the photo ID requirement, including the list of acceptable IDs. Voters who donβt have an acceptable form of ID can get one from their county board of elections.
Voters can also get a free ID card from the NCDMV. Read Full Article

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question πππ
The Carolina Reaper holds the title of the hottest chili pepper in the world, according to the Guinness World Records. Developed by Ed Currie in South Carolina, this pepper reaches an average of 1,641,183 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), with some individual peppers surpassing 2 million SHU.
The Carolina Reaper is known for its distinctive wrinkled appearance and stinger-like tail. Its extreme heat is not for the faint-hearted, often used in sauces and dishes by those who can handle very spicy food, and it's also popular among chili enthusiasts for heat challenges.
For more detailed information about the Carolina Reaper and its fiery heat scale, you can visit Pepperhead, a resource dedicated to hot peppers: https://pepperhead.com/.
