Cary Mother Pleads Guilty to Murder After Leaving Children in Hot Car

Launice Shanique Battle of Cary has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her daughters, Amora and Trinity Milbourne.

The tragic incident occurred in August 2022, when Battle left her three- and two-year-old daughters in a car for six hours while she gambled at the Vegas Style Sweepstakes parlor. The autopsy revealed that the children died of hyperthermia, showing no detectable body temperature and signs of mild decomposition when found.

Battle was located at Duke Raleigh Hospital later that evening and subsequently arrested. Surveillance footage confirmed her presence at the sweepstakes parlor during the time her daughters were left in the vehicle.

As part of her plea agreement, Battle faces a sentence of 14 to 20 years in prison, with each count of second-degree murder carrying a term of seven to ten years. Read Full Report

Apex Racing Lab: Cary's New Motor Sports Haven

Apex Racing Lab in Cary offers an exhilarating haven for motor sports enthusiasts. The newly opened simulated racing lounge, meticulously designed by owner John DiCostanzo, features high-quality racing simulators for both kids and adults, alongside a cocktail bar, conference room, and retail shop.

The venue promises an immersive experience for those passionate about racing, blending sophisticated technology with a social atmosphere.

John DiCostanzo, a former pre-sales engineer and avid racing fan, was inspired to create Apex Racing Lab after visiting a sim racing facility in Asheville. His journey began with a sim racing trailer, which he took to car shows and events, proving the concept's popularity.

After a lengthy search, he secured a location in Cary’s MacGregor Village, transforming a former office space into a 5,700-square-foot racing paradise. The lounge is adorned with motor sports memorabilia, including Rusty Wallace’s 1999 Daytona car and custom-made dΓ©cor. With 16 simulators, Apex Racing Lab caters to both beginners and pros, offering a variety of tracks and competitive leagues. Read Full Article
