Wake County to Enforce Rules on Private Pool Rentals Amid Rising Popularity
As Wake County deals with intense heat, private pool rentals through the Swimply website are gaining traction. Homeowners like Saunja Coleman are renting their pools to strangers, earning significant extra income.
Despite precautions, there are legal and safety concerns about this practice, as renting out pools changes the owner's obligations and increases liability risks.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services considers rented pools public, requiring permits and adherence to public pool regulations. While some counties have enforced these rules, Local hosts have not yet been required to comply.
Raleigh’s permitting department does not currently regulate these pools unless they are operated as businesses but is examining the trend’s future.
Wake County officials plan to follow state health department guidance, investigate complaints, and enforce land use ordinances in unincorporated areas. The overall future of this trend in North Carolina will depend on how legal and health issues are addressed. Read Full Report

The Franklin: Downtown Cary’s Tallest Building in the Works
Gala Investments LLC has unveiled plans for The Franklin, a 7-story condominium development poised to become downtown Cary’s tallest building.
The project, located on Walker Street near the Downtown Cary Park, will include 40 for-sale condos, retail space, and a rooftop terrace. Prices for the units range from $375,000 to $715,000.
The development is part of a broader trend towards urban living near Research Triangle Park, anticipating a return to office work over the next decade.
The project site was historically known as Franklin Farm, named after a descendant of Benjamin Franklin’s older brother. The new park, featuring various amenities and a social district, enhances the location’s appeal.
Construction will start after site plan approval, which is expected to take 15 to 18 months. Read Full Article
