Officials Urge Caution with Fireworks Amid Dry Conditions in North Carolina
With the Fourth of July nearing, North Carolina residents are flocking to buy fireworks, but officials are warning of the increased fire risk due to dry conditions.
At the Keystone Fireworks tent in Apex, sales are surging as people prepare for celebrations. However, the North Carolina Forest Service and local fire departments are advising the public to attend professional displays instead of setting off their own fireworks.
Dry conditions have heightened the risk of fires, and officials are on high alert. Despite no burn ban in place, the public is urged to exercise caution, as fireworks can quickly ignite fires. Kids Get Free Entry to North Carolina Courage Matches This Summer
The North Carolina Courage have launched a summer promotion allowing children aged 12 and under to attend matches at WakeMed Soccer Park for free through Labor Day Weekend.
This initiative, covering four games, starts this Sunday when the Courage play Racing Louisville. The promotion aims to make soccer accessible to young fans and foster community engagement, with special merchandise and concessions also available throughout the summer.
The matches included in the promotion are against Orlando Pride on July 20, Rayadas de Monterrey on July 31, and a nationally televised game against Kansas City Current on September 1.
Free children’s tickets must be obtained online in advance and are general admission and non-transferable. Parking is included with all ticket purchases this season. Read full story and get tickets

Chase Across Wake and Chatham Counties Leads to Standoff and Arrest
Chad Vernon Clark was arrested after leading troopers on a high-speed chase that began in Raleigh and ended in Pittsboro, where he barricaded himself in his home.
The incident started late Saturday night when troopers attempted to stop Clark’s vehicle on Interstate 87. After a failed tactical maneuver and temporary loss of sight, law enforcement found Clark at his Pittsboro residence, leading to an hours-long standoff.
Clark was apprehended early Sunday morning and faces several charges, with additional charges expected. Read full story

North Carolina Courage Earn First Road Win of the Season
The North Carolina Courage earned a 1-0 victory over the Washington Spirit at Audi Field, marking their first road win of the 2024 season.

The Courage's defense was formidable throughout the match, particularly in the second half when they restricted Washington's opportunities. Key performances from Denise O’Sullivan, Narumi Shibata, and goalkeeper Casey Murphy were instrumental in securing the clean sheet.
