A fireball dazzled the night sky over North Carolina on June 25, seen by witnesses across multiple states. NASA Meteor Watch confirmed the event, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the North Carolina-Virginia border.
The fireball was captured by cameras at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute and other locations. Observers described the meteor as a bright, crackling spectacle with colorful sparks and a quick flash.

Triangle Soccer Star Casey Murphy Joins US Olympic Team
Casey Murphy, a standout goalkeeper for the North Carolina Courage, has been named to the Olympic roster, signaling a major milestone in her career. Murphy, who has been with the Courage since 2021 and holds the club record for wins, will represent the United States at the Paris Olympics.
Her selection is a testament to the rising prominence of soccer in the Triangle, a trend observed by Courage head coach Sean Nahas. Nahas points to the significant impact of major events like the Olympics on local interest and enthusiasm for the sport.
This growth is further evidenced by the increased activity at Soccer Genome, a Raleigh-based training facility managed by Taylor Pilkington.
The facility's success reflects the deepening connection young players have with professional teams in the area. As the US Women's National Team gears up for their Olympic journey, the Triangle community shows strong support for Murphy and the sport's continued growth. Read full story.
