Novo Nordisk Announces Major Investment in North Carolina Facility
Novo Nordisk has announced a $4.1 billion investment to establish a new manufacturing facility in Clayton, North Carolina, dedicated to producing injectable treatments for chronic diseases, including Ozempic and Wegovy.
This expansion, one of the company's largest investments to date, will create 1,000 new jobs, adding to the existing 2,500 employees in the region.
The facility will serve as a key hub for innovation and biotechnology in the U.S. Construction on the 56-acre site is already underway, with completion expected between 2027 and 2029.
Local leaders, such as Butch Lawter, Chair of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners, have praised the investment, underscoring the enduring partnership between Novo Nordisk and the community. Read full story
High Fire Danger Puts Triangle Counties on Alert
Durham, Orange, and Person counties in central North Carolina are experiencing heightened fire danger, a condition expected to last for several days according to N.C. State University climatologists.
In response, the Chapel Hill Fire Department is prepared to call in additional aid from off-duty crews and neighboring departments to support firefighters during high-intensity incidents.
The North Carolina Forest Service, which typically assists with wildfires in other states during the summer, is suspending out-of-state dispatch to concentrate resources locally due to the elevated fire threat.
Last week, the Forest Service dealt with 146 new fires, all caused by human activities. Read full story
Apple Delays North Carolina Campus Development
Apple has decided to delay the development of its North Carolina campus, a project initially announced in 2021 with an investment pledge of over $1 billion.
The project, intended to establish a significant engineering and research center in the Research Triangle area of Raleigh and Durham, has seen limited progress since its inception. Apple has extended the project timeline by four years in collaboration with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and the Department of Commerce.
Despite the delay, Apple continues to affirm its commitment to North Carolina, where it has operated for over two decades and recently expanded its Raleigh team by more than 600 employees.
The company's development plans for the campus include six buildings and a parking garage on 41 acres, with the potential for multiple construction phases on a total of 281 acres. In the meantime, Apple has leased over 200,000 square feet of office space in Cary, North Carolina. Read full story
