Cary Kicks Off World's Largest Soccer Festival, Eyes Economic Goals

Cary, North Carolina is currently the center of global attention as it plays host to the largest soccer festival in the world. This week, WakeMed Soccer Park transforms into a bustling hub for soccer enthusiasts, with the tournament offering a substantial $1 million prize for the winning teams in both the men’s and women’s categories.

As the event kicked off, over 1,500 athletes from 56 different teams were seen refining their skills on the fields, gearing up for a week of intense competition that includes 118 matches. High-Speed Pursuit Turns Fatal on Interstate 540, Teen Driver Killed

Aidan Joseph Gambone, an 18-year-old from Wake Forest, tragically lost his life after a high-speed chase with Wake County deputies on Interstate 540. He was driving a Nissan 370Z at nearly 115 mph in a 70 mph zone.

After evading an initial attempt to stop him, Gambone drove recklessly through traffic signals and used the opposite lane to overtake, ultimately crashing into a Toyota Camry.

The crash resulted in Gambone's death and serious injuries to the other driver, who was alone in his vehicle.

The incident, now under investigation by the State Highway Patrol, highlights the critical challenges faced by law enforcement in managing high-speed pursuits. Read More
