Cary to Dedicate New Gold Star Memorial This Memorial Day

The Cary Garden Club, in collaboration with the Town of Cary, is set to unveil a Gold Star Memorial at the Veterans Freedom Park this Memorial Day. The dedication event, scheduled for Monday, May 27, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., will pay tribute to the hallowed memory of those who sacrificed their lives in active military service.

The ceremonies will take place at the Veterans Freedom Park located at 1517 N. Harrison Avenue in Cary, North Carolina. The new memorial will be placed adjacent to the existing Blue Star Memorial, enhancing the park's commitment to honoring military service.

Gold Star Families, who have lost immediate relatives on active duty, are particularly encouraged to attend. The event is also open to active and veteran service members, their families, and the general public.

Attendees will have an opportunity to commemorate their own loved ones through donations that enable the inclusion of the service member’s details in a Memorial Book to be showcased at the event. Those interested in making a donation are asked to send their contributions to the Cary Garden Club by May 15, although provisions will be made for anonymous contributions during the dedication day.

Following the solemn ceremony, attendees will be invited to partake in light refreshments, offering a moment of camaraderie and reflection.

This Memorial Day, the Cary community seeks not only to remember the fallen but also to strengthen the bonds among those they left behind, ensuring the memories of the brave continue to inspire future generations.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇

Edward Jenner - Link to Bio

Edward Jenner (1749–1823) was an English physician who is renowned for developing the first successful vaccine for smallpox, a breakthrough that has saved countless lives. Born in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, Jenner's fascination with science and nature led him to investigate why milkmaids who contracted cowpox seemed immune to smallpox.

In 1796, he tested his hypothesis by inoculating a young boy with material from a cowpox lesion and later showed that the boy had developed immunity to smallpox, effectively founding the modern practice of vaccination.
