Cary Commits $7.3 Million to Enhance Local Housing and Community Development
The Cary Town Council has given the green light to the 2024-2025 Cary Housing & CDBG Annual Action Draft Plan, directing nearly $7.3 million to support and enhance affordable housing in Cary.
This funding will result in 226 new affordable housing units and the renovation of 29 existing units. The financial distribution further includes substantial investments in supporting broader housing stability and reinforcing the infrastructure of local non-profits dedicated to this cause.
This approval is part of Cary’s concerted effort, initiated with the 2021 Cary Housing Plan, to respond effectively to the diverse housing needs of its residents. The plan, aligning with federal and community objectives, now moves forward to HUD for final approval.

Walmart Employee Races Towards Olympic Dreams at NC State
Dylan Beard, a deli clerk at Walmart, is also a distinguished hurdler aspiring to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. After an impressive performance at the Millrose Games where he emerged as the third fastest hurdler globally, Beard secured a spot at the upcoming U.S. Olympic trials.
Despite the demanding training schedule at NC State in Raleigh, he continues to work at Walmart, funding his training as an unsponsored athlete and constantly showcasing an exemplary work ethic both as an athlete and an employee.
His recent surprise during an interview—a $20,000 check from Walmart—will help cover the expenses of his participation in the Olympic trials, providing a well-deserved boost to Beard’s athletic and professional pursuits.

North Carolina Courage Aims to Extend Home Unbeaten Streak Against Seattle Reign
Tonight, the North Carolina Courage will host Seattle Reign FC in their sixth match of the 2024 NWSL season at WakeMed Soccer Park, where they will also celebrate the 2024 NCFC Youth Shield Award winners.
The match is expected to attract one of the club's largest audiences. The Courage, who are currently fourth in the league, hope to bounce back from a recent loss to Angel City FC, despite outperforming the opposition in various statistics but losing 2-1.
The team enjoys a significant home field advantage, having remained undefeated in regular-season home games since April 2023.
Seattle, adjusting to their first season without star player Megan Rapinoe, started with a win but has faced a tough run with four consecutive losses. Their challenge continues as they struggle with possession, despite ranking fairly well in the league for this metric.
Key players for Seattle include Bethany Balcer and Ji So-Yun, who have been pivotal despite the team’s slow start.
