Potential Cover-Up Alleged in NC State Building Linked to Cancer Cases

A legal petition alleges that North Carolina State University might have destroyed or concealed evidence regarding toxic PCB contamination in Poe Hall, a closure linked with cancer diagnoses among its occupiers.

Despite requests for independent analysis, the university has restricted access and assigned only its chosen firm Geosyntec Consults to handle the investigation, whose methods have been questioned by experts.

Recent developments reveal the university activated the buildingโ€™s HVAC system, potentially affecting the accuracy of ongoing tests. With the university withholding a final report on the contamination, allegations of obfuscation grow as the community awaits a judicial decision on whether independent investigators will be granted access to Poe Hall.

If approved, this could initiate a series of legal actions from those affected. Read full story

Johnston County Welcomes Massive Amazon Center, 1,000 New Jobs

Initially expected to employ 500 individuals, the company has now pledged to double this number to 1,000. The facility is equipped with advanced robotics and automated systems to handle up to 1 million items daily, with this number anticipated to surge during peak periods like Prime Day.

The general manager, Eric Arnold, reported that they are currently functioning at half-capacity, with efforts ongoing to bolster the workforce to full capacity. Workers can expect a starting wage of $17 per hour with immediate benefits, and an educational benefit that covers college tuition.

A Toast to Community: Red, White, Bubbly and Brew's Unique Take on Mobile Bar Services

Red, White, Bubbly and Brew is redefining the role of mobile bars in community engagement and support. Operating for over two years, this Cary-based business serves up a variety of beverages at local events, from festivals and markets to private celebrations, all with a twist of philanthropy. Each drink sold contributes to local non-profits, including their own initiative, JEN Inc., which assists families facing crises such as medical diagnoses or sudden unemployment.

Founded by Jenifer Zygmond, a mother of three and a community enthusiast, the idea of a philanthropic mobile bar service blossomed from her desire to blend social gatherings with effortless charity. Originally supporting only JEN Inc., the business has expanded its reach to assist multiple local causes, including 100 Women Give a Hoot, Second Chance Ranch Rescue, The Carying Place and more. This expansion is grounded in the belief that enjoying a beverage can simultaneously support the communityโ€”a concept encapsulated in their hashtag #EverySipCounts.

Beyond just serving drinks, Red, White, Bubbly and Brew has grown to include Bubbly Plus, a permanent bar located within the Shope at Haven Farm in Knightdale. This venue not only offers monthly wine tastings but also hosts a wine club, further deepening community ties. Additionally, the business recently introduced a rentable bar service for private parties, enhancing their service offerings while maintaining their community-first ethos.

The company's signature drink, the Prickly Pear Margarita, epitomizes their innovative approach to traditional bar service. As spring unfolds, Red, White, Bubbly and Brew continues to appear at a multitude of venues, including the Cary Food & Flea and various regional festivals, solidifying its role as a community staple.

Zygmond's vision for a business that supports local non-profits without the need for direct fundraising has resonated well within the community, reflecting a shared desire to aid those in need while enjoying life's simpler pleasures. As Red, White, Bubbly and Brew looks towards a busy summer schedule, they remain committed to their dual mission of celebrating life and uplifting those around them.

Special Note from Jen: We request anyone interested in a rental to contact Red, White, Bubbly and Brew at [email protected] or 919-297-8186 to schedule a 15-minute consultation. We can rent the basic bar or cart up to a full-service experience. Great for weddings and graduation parties!
