Irma Richardson Chooses Lump Sum in Life-Changing Lottery Win

Just before reaching her 60th milestone, Winston-Salem resident Irma Richardson received a transformative early birthday present: a $25,000 annual prize for life from the Lucky for Life lottery game. Richardson opted for the lump sum payment of $390,000 over the annuity, a decision influenced by her proximity to retirement. After taxes, she secured $278,851.

Richardson purchased her $2 Quick Pick ticket online, a method she has favored since its inception. Her successful match of all five white balls, an event with a probability of 1 in 1.8 million, triggered an exuberant reaction that initially alarmed her husband.

The Lucky for Life game, which holds nightly drawings, is one of six lottery options in North Carolina that allow participants to buy tickets online or at retail locations. Notably, the lottery contributed $21.5 million to educational initiatives in Forsyth County last year alone, underlining its impact beyond mere gaming.

Cary Explores On-Demand Microtransit Options with New Public Survey

Cary officials have launched a survey to evaluate public interest and potential effectiveness of a microtransit system, designed to provide on-demand transit solutions where regular buses might not reach.

By using an app or making a phone call, residents could significantly improve their access to the main transit network, mirroring successful implementations in other cities. This step is part of Cary’s efforts to adapt to evolving transportation needs and improve urban mobility.

Share your feedback and take the Microtransit Survey now. The survey closes on May 18, 2024, and responses will remain anonymous.

Wind Gusts Up to 50 MPH Disrupt Life in Central North Carolina

Central North Carolina was hit hard by strong winds on Thursday, leading to fallen trees, blocked roads, and extensive power outages, especially in Wake and Lee counties.

As of late Thursday afternoon, nearly 6,000 North Carolinians were without electricity. The impact was most severe in Lee County, where winds stripped a roof from a building in Sanford and downed trees caused additional disruptions throughout the Raleigh and Cary areas.

Just curious…
