Direct Flights to New York's Capital Introduced by Avelo Airlines at RDU

Celebrating its one-year base operation anniversary at RDU, Avelo Airlines introduces a direct flight to Albany International Airport, enhancing its route offerings and establishing the only nonstop service between the capitals of New York and North Carolina.

Carpenter Park: Cary's Communal Gem Balancing Recreation and Remembrance

Carpenter Park, has become a cornerstone for community engagement and outdoor recreation, blending seamlessly into the natural woodland that defines the area. This 16-acre haven offers a comprehensive suite of amenities tailored for individuals and families alike, fostering a range of activities from spirited pickleball games to serene contemplation amidst nature's embrace.

The park is thoughtfully designed to include a broad wooded buffer, integrating existing and newly planted trees that not only beautify the landscape but also serve as a natural barrier, mitigating the impact of light and noise on nearby residents. The southern border of the park features forested slopes, presenting visitors with the dual benefit of enjoying the natural environment while contributing to the preservation of Panther Creek's water quality.

Carpenter Park is distinguished not only by its recreational facilities but also by its role as a memorial site. It honors the memory of the victims from Flights AE3379 and AE3378, with a dedicated monument unveiled in 2016, adding a layer of solemn reflection to the park's vibrant life. Flight 3378 met a tragic fate in 1988, and Flight 3379 in 1994, both leaving behind a legacy of sorrow and resilience that is commemorated within the park's grounds.

In addition to its memorial, the park boasts an array of features aimed at promoting active and engaged lifestyles. Facilities include two lighted youth ballfields, a playground with areas designated for different age groups, and a sheltered picnic area. The playground is notably well-appointed, featuring a large sandbox, soft surface underfoot, and swings suitable for all ages, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for children.

However, visitors have noted that the park's abundance of open space can lead to a scarcity of shade during the hotter months, suggesting that while Carpenter Park is an ideal destination for cooler days, it may be less comfortable during the peak of summer.

Savory Breakfast Waffles with Emerson & Valentina

Thanks Emerson for this fun food idea. So, I dug up this recipe on the interwebs from a pretty cook named Valentina. Hey, if two heads are better than one, then two chefs…yummy!

“Typically, we think of waffles as a sweet breakfast or brunch food -- but savory waffles are also excellent for dinner. Who doesn't love breakfast for dinner, anyway?

Recipe Tips and Substitutions:

Vegetarian? Even though these are called Bacon Cheddar Waffles, you're allowed to skip the bacon. 😉 Or, if you would like to turn these into interesting vegetarian savory waffles, substitute the bacon with chopped sun-dried tomatoes marinated in oil. (If you do this, you won't need a skillet -- just mix the sun-dried tomatoes with the scallions.
