Your K-Cup Has Been Sitting in a Warehouse for Months

That grocery store pod? It was roasted long before it hit the shelf. Coffee starts losing flavor within weeks of roasting — which is why your morning cup tastes flat, no matter how nice your machine is.

Angelino's does it differently. A third-generation roaster in Los Angeles, they roast, grind, and seal every pod in-house for peak freshness, then ship it to your door within days of roasting. The difference is the first thing you'll notice: real aroma, real flavor, no bitterness.

Mix and match from 50+ specialty coffees, teas, and flavored blends — all Keurig®-compatible — and save more with every box you add, up to 34% off at 12+. Order once whenever you're running low, or subscribe for an extra 5% if that's easier. Entirely up to you.

New customers get 15% off their first order — applied automatically, no code needed.

Basil ‘n Spice

Basil ‘n Spice is one of the local food places nominated by Cary Spotlight’s readers for our Discover Cary project. If you’ve had a chance to sample their food, feel free to share your opinion below.

Basil ‘n Spice in Apex brings Indian, Thai, and Chinese favorites together under one roof, so one table can share samosas and basil naan while another digs into drunken noodles or a holy basil stir-fry, all cooked by a chef with more than 20 years in the kitchen.
Technically Apex, but practically Cary—Basil ‘n Spice is so close to the border, your GPS won’t even notice… but your taste buds definitely will!

The Mineral Everyone Forgets Until Their Driveway Freezes Over

Most people couldn't tell you what scandium is for, but everyone knows what happens when roads go unsalted. North America keeps running short, and Atlas Salt (TSXV: SALT) is building a shovel-ready mine in Newfoundland, three days by ship from Boston, with C$188 million in projected yearly free cash flow.

Cary Athlete Turns Love of Pickleball Into Mission to Fight ALS

Roger Gore, a 72-year-old Cary athlete, continues to compete at an impressive level in pickleball, running and the National Senior Games. He spends several hours on the pickleball court most days and is preparing for the senior national championships next month. His athletic accomplishments include world championship pickleball medals and participation in 20 events at a recent Senior Games competition, where he placed in 14.

Although Gore has spent much of his life competing, his connection to pickleball has taken on a deeper meaning. After introducing his brother-in-law, a former competitive soccer and tennis player, to the sport, Gore learned that his relative had been diagnosed with ALS. His brother-in-law was unable to continue participating in athletics and died approximately three years later.

Gore promised to organize a pickleball tournament in his brother-in-law's memory. He fulfilled that commitment last year by partnering with Andrea Lytle Peet, an athlete living with ALS and founder of Team Drea, a nonprofit supporting ALS awareness and research. The experience inspired Gore to pursue additional fundraising opportunities.

His latest initiative is a proposed North Carolina specialty license plate promoting pickleball and ALS research. The Acing ALS Pickleball plate requires at least 500 preorders before the state can consider issuing it. Each $30 preorder would allocate $20 to Team Drea and $10 to the state. Supporters can learn more through the organization's website.

How Readers Can Get Involved

  • 🏓 Support the license plate initiative: Visit Team Drea's Acing ALS page for information about preordering.

  • 🚗 Help reach the 500-preorder goal: Share the initiative with North Carolina drivers who enjoy pickleball or want to support ALS research.

  • 📣 Spread awareness: Share Gore's story with friends, family and local pickleball communities.

Cary's GoCary Program Opens New Doors for Seniors Seeking Independence

GoCary is helping older adults in Cary become more confident and independent through a transit education program that combines classroom learning with real-world bus rides. Fifteen seniors recently participated in a guided field trip designed to teach them how to navigate local routes, use transit technology and access destinations throughout town.

The outing began at Cary Depot, where participants learned about connections to GoTriangle and Amtrak, met bus drivers and received information about future transportation projects. They then boarded GoCary Route 5 along the Kildaire Farm Road corridor and practiced using the GoCary app to follow their location and check bus schedules.

During the ride, seniors explored how Cary's transit system connects residents with parks, libraries, arts facilities, shopping centers, medical services and residential communities. The group also stopped at Esteamed Coffee, providing an opportunity to discuss their experience and connect with fellow participants.

The program is led by Cary's senior services and transit outreach staff, with an emphasis on helping older residents maintain independence and community connections. Demand has been strong, with 56 residents on the waiting list and more field trips scheduled for winter and spring. Residents can find transit information and trip-planning resources at GoCary.org.

Just curious…

Silver Has Beaten Gold Before. It's Doing It Again.

From 1974 to 1987, silver more than doubled gold's returns. After 2008, it beat gold five-fold in three years. Since March 2020, silver is up 402% against gold's 186%. Our research team's free playbook explains why, and how the team would position.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A: Blue

Liquid oxygen has a clear, pale blue or cyan color. While oxygen is a colorless and odorless gas under normal conditions, it becomes visible when condensed into a liquid. Liquid oxygen contains two unpaired electrons in its outer orbital, making it paramagnetic (attracted to magnets). This electron arrangement absorbs red light in the visible spectrum, leaving behind a pale blue or cyan appearance.
