Lost Something at the NC State Fair?
How to Recover Your Belongings
The 2026 North Carolina State Fair has concluded, but employees are continuing to reunite visitors with belongings left behind during the event. Fair officials report that hundreds of items were collected, including cell phones, credit cards, driver's licenses and other personal possessions.
NC State Fair Director Kent Yelverton said staff attempt to return lost belongings during the fair, but some items remain unclaimed after the event ends. The fairgrounds administrative office has continued receiving calls from visitors searching for missing property.
Anyone who lost an item can contact the fairgrounds at (919) 821-7400 or visit the administrative office during its regular hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors must provide identifying information or other details to establish ownership before an item can be returned.
Lost belongings will be held until November 27, 2026. After the deadline, items containing personal information will be destroyed to protect privacy, while other usable belongings may be donated. Fair officials encourage visitors to contact the office promptly rather than waiting until the deadline approaches.

Cary Police Standoff Ends Peacefully With Arrest of State Senate Candidate
Jonathan D. Miller, the Libertarian nominee for North Carolina Senate District 16, was taken into custody Monday afternoon following an hours-long police standoff near Cary's Lochmere neighborhood. The incident began after authorities became aware of social media posts from Miller's account referencing suicide and possible armed confrontations with police.
Cary officers conducted a welfare check at approximately 8:26 a.m. at Miller's residence on Glen Echo Lane. Police Chief Terry Sult said Miller was carrying a firearm when officers approached and fled after being instructed not to touch it. The resulting search continued for several hours before Miller was arrested around 3 p.m. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.
During the incident, Resurrection Lutheran School was placed under a precautionary Code Yellow lockdown. Miller also contacted WRAL several times, describing his account of the police encounter and expressing concerns about involuntary hospitalization. Police said the station's cooperation helped officers understand the situation and communicate with him.
WRAL reported that Miller faced charges of communicating threats, resisting officers and going armed to the terror of the people. However, local reporting has differed on the precise weapons-related charges, so the final charge list requires confirmation. Miller is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. He is running against Democratic incumbent Gale Adcock and Republican nominee Philip Hensley in the November 3 election.
Just curious…

Courage Fall in Portland, But Playoff Hopes Stay Alive
The North Carolina Courage suffered a tough 1-0 loss to the Portland Thorns Friday night at Providence Park, but their playoff hopes aren't over yet! With one regular-season match remaining, the Courage return to Cary for a crucial Decision Day showdown that could determine their postseason future.
- ⚽ Portland finds the winner: After a closely contested first hour, Marie Muller broke the scoreless tie in the 60th minute, firing a second-chance shot from outside the box into the top corner. The goal proved to be the difference as the Thorns held on for a 1-0 victory.
- 🙌 Schlegel makes her return: Ally Schlegel provided a welcome boost for North Carolina, entering the match in the 76th minute after being activated from the 45-Day Injury List earlier Friday. Her return gives the Courage another attacking option for their final playoff push.
- 📈 Playoff hopes remain alive: Despite the defeat, the Courage are still mathematically alive in the postseason race. A 0-0 draw between the Seattle Reign and Utah Royals helped keep North Carolina's chances alive, although the Courage will need a favorable result and help from other teams on Decision Day.
- 🏟️ Decision Day comes to Cary: The Courage will host the Denver Summit on Sunday, November 1, at 5 p.m. ET, at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. With a playoff spot potentially on the line, the season finale promises plenty of drama for players and fans alike.
The road to the playoffs now runs through Cary, where Courage fans will have one more chance to bring the noise and help their team fight for a postseason spot!
