RDU Travelers Brace for Possible Flight Delays as Hurricane Isaias Approaches
Passengers at Raleigh-Durham International Airport are monitoring possible flight disruptions as Hurricane Isaias approaches the Gulf Coast. Several airports in the storm's path have reported cancellations or temporarily suspended commercial operations.
Pensacola, Mobile and Destin-Fort Walton Beach are among the affected airports. The disruptions have raised concerns for passengers traveling to Gulf Coast destinations or connecting through airports experiencing severe weather.
Delta, United, Southwest and American Airlines have announced travel accommodations for eligible passengers. These include flight-change waivers, temporary service suspensions and additional rebooking flexibility, depending on the airline and itinerary.
At RDU, some travelers are concerned about getting stranded or having their return flights delayed. Airlines recommend checking flight status through their official websites and apps, reviewing applicable travel advisories and making schedule changes when necessary.

How Cary Feels About the 2027 Revaluation
Wake County’s next property revaluation lands in 2027, and if the last round taught local homeowners anything, it’s that a new assessment notice can be a jolt. So we asked readers what concerns them most heading into it. The answer was clear: it’s less about the process and more about the bill.
Issue #1081 — "What concerns you most about Wake County’s 2027 property revaluation?"
Poll Results
💸 The possibility of higher property tax bills: 49%
🧓 The impact on seniors and fixed-income homeowners: 38%
📈 Rising home values making housing less affordable: 7%
🔍 Transparency in how property values are assessed: 5%
⚖️ Making sure property assessments are fair and accurate: 0%
🤔 I’m still learning how the revaluation works: 0%
Nearly half of respondents named higher tax bills as their top worry, and when you add in the concern for seniors and fixed-income homeowners, close to nine in ten readers framed the revaluation as a question of who can afford to stay. That second-place finish stands out. Many readers aren’t only thinking about their own bill; they’re thinking about neighbors who’ve paid off their homes and live on a set income.
What drew almost no votes is just as telling. Assessment accuracy and fairness, the nuts and bolts of how values get set, registered barely a blip, and not a single reader said they were still learning how revaluation works. Cary readers know the drill. They’re watching the dollar figure.
This is a snapshot of our engaged readers rather than a countywide survey, but the direction is hard to miss.
💬 What Readers Said
One reader who chose the seniors option put it plainly: the revaluation risks pushing older residents out. They also argued that local property values are actually heading down rather than up, a view that runs against the premise of rising assessments and one worth watching as 2027 data comes in.
Final Thoughts
Whatever the new numbers say, we’ll be tracking the revaluation here every step of the way. Thanks to everyone who weighed in, and if you have a senior neighbor who doesn’t read Cary Spotlight, maybe forward this one along.

Cary Readers Are Ready to Vote, and Many Won’t Wait
With early voting kicking off Thursday, Oct. 15, we asked readers a simple question: when do you plan to cast your ballot? The answer was clear. Cary Spotlight readers aren’t waiting around. Most plan to vote early, and many want to get it done in the first few days.
"When Do You Plan to Cast Your Ballot?" poll (Issue #1079):
Poll Results
📅 During the first few days of early voting: 42.9%
🗓️ Sometime in the middle of early voting: ~32%
🏛️ On Election Day, Nov. 3: ~18%
📬 By absentee ballot: ~4%
⏰ During the final few days of early voting: ~2%
🤔 I haven’t decided yet: ~2%
Roughly three out of four respondents plan to vote early, with the strongest pull toward the opening days. That’s a group that likes to plan ahead and avoid the last-minute rush. Interestingly, almost nobody is saving it for the final stretch of early voting, which suggests readers either go early or go traditional.
Election Day still has its loyalists, with nearly one in five planning to show up on Nov. 3. One reader who chose Election Day made it clear that the early-voting trend isn’t for everyone, preferring the tradition of voting on the day itself.
Absentee voting drew only a small share, and just about every respondent already knows their plan. This is a snapshot of engaged readers rather than a forecast for all of Cary, but it’s a telling one.
📅 Important Dates for Wake County Voters
