A Ballot Research Resource for Cary Voters
With Election Day approaching, Cary Spotlight is sharing resources that can help Wake County residents learn what will appear on their ballot before they vote.
One place to start is Ballotpedia’s Wake County voter resource, which brings together information about elections, elected officials, school districts, courts and ballot measures affecting Wake County.
The goal is simple: give readers another nonpartisan resource they can use to research their ballot and make their own decisions before Election Day on Nov. 3.
📋 What Can You Find?
Ballotpedia provides election information at the federal, state and local levels, with pages dedicated to Wake County and North Carolina.
Residents can use the site to research government officials and offices, elections and candidates, and statewide ballot measures.
For Cary Spotlight readers, it can serve as a starting point before moving to official election resources to confirm voting locations, registration information and the exact contests appearing on an individual ballot.
📝 Three Statewide Measures on the Nov. 3 Ballot
North Carolina voters are scheduled to decide three statewide constitutional amendments in November. Ballotpedia News
One measure concerns property taxes. It would require the General Assembly to enact laws limiting how much property taxes may increase. Ballotpedia News
Another concerns the state income tax rate. It would lower the maximum income tax rate permitted under the North Carolina Constitution from 7% to 3.5%. Ballotpedia News
The third concerns voter identification. It would expand the state Constitution's photo identification requirement to apply to all voters, rather than only those voting in person. Ballotpedia News

🔎 Use More Than One Resource
Ballotpedia can be useful for researching candidates, offices and ballot measures, but voters should also check official state and county election resources for their individual voter registration, polling place and sample ballot.
That distinction matters because not every Wake County voter necessarily sees the same races on their ballot. The exact ballot depends on the districts and jurisdictions associated with a voter's registered address.
Taking a few minutes to review your individual sample ballot before voting can give you time to research unfamiliar races and measures without the pressure of seeing them for the first time at the polls.
📌 Good to Know
North Carolina voters will be asked to show photo identification, but not having an acceptable photo ID in hand does not automatically mean someone cannot vote. State election officials provide procedures for voters who cannot show an ID, including provisional voting and permitted ID exceptions.
Wake County voters can use ReadyToVote.com for local election information, including registration, sample ballots, voting options and polling information. Statewide voter requirements and official guidance are available from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

Over the Newsroom for a Day
Preschoolers at The Goddard School of Cary - Lochmere got a hands-on introduction to journalism Monday as part of a World News Day celebration.
Students created good news collages and built their own classroom news studios, complete with microphones, press badges and toy cameras.
The activities encouraged children to ask questions, listen, explore ideas and share stories, skills that connect journalism with the natural curiosity of young learners.
By focusing on good news, the celebration also encouraged students to notice positive stories in the world around them and practice sharing those stories with others.

Sanchez Ties NWSL Scoring Record
in Courage Loss
Ashley Sanchez added another historic moment to her remarkable season Sunday, scoring her 20th goal to tie the NWSL single-season record. The milestone came in a 2-1 road loss to the Utah Royals, leaving the North Carolina Courage at 12-11-3 with four regular-season matches remaining.
⚽ Sanchez reaches 20: Ashley Sanchez converted a penalty in the 37th minute to tie the match 1-1. Her 20th goal of the season matched Temwa Chawinga's 2024 mark for the most goals in a single NWSL season.
👑 One goal from history: Sanchez now has 24 goal contributions this season, the second-most in a single NWSL campaign. Her next goal would give her the league's single-season scoring record outright.
⚽ Utah finds the winner: Cloé Lacasse gave the Royals an early lead with a header in the 17th minute. After Sanchez equalized, Cece Delzer scored in the 65th minute to put Utah back ahead for good.
🙌 Jackson returns: Riley Jackson returned to action for North Carolina after missing three matches with a foot injury, providing a boost with the Courage entering the final four games of the regular season.
The result was disappointing, but Sanchez's record-tying night gives Cary fans a big reason to watch the final stretch as she chases NWSL history.
