Cary Town Council Meets Tonight
Cary Town Council meets tonight, Sept. 24, with several development, infrastructure and policy decisions on the agenda. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
One major discussion involves Alston Commons, a proposed mixed-use development along N.C. 55 that could include up to 625 multifamily homes, office and commercial space. Council will also consider allowing the planned Flat Iron downtown development to increase from 200 to 250 residential units.
Another proposal would significantly expand Cary's smoking and vaping restrictions to include Town grounds, parks, greenways and trails, along with enclosed public places throughout the community. If adopted, those changes would take effect in July 2027.
The consent agenda includes several major contracts and infrastructure projects, including a $1.62 million water main project and five-year fuel management contract of up to $14.81 million.

Cary Community Celebrates Resident at 101 Years Young
Brookdale Cary honored resident Ruth Jeanne Marmarose in recognition of National Centenarian’s Day. At 101, Marmarose continues to maintain an active daily routine that includes getting ready for breakfast and taking a walk.
Earlier in life, she briefly served in the Nurse Corps before working as a real estate agent while her children were growing up.
Travel has also played a major role in her life. Brookdale Cary says she has visited 15 countries and taken more than 30 cruises, along with enjoying gambling during her travels.
Marmarose attributes her longevity to good genes, hearty food and an active lifestyle, offering a fitting local story for a day dedicated to celebrating people who have lived for more than a century.
