42 Days Until Election Day
Election Day is getting closer. As of Tuesday, Sept. 22, there are 42 days until the Nov. 3, 2026 General Election, making now a good time for Cary and Wake County residents to check their voter information and make a plan for casting their ballot.
Wake County had 864,456 registered voters as of Sept. 21, according to the county statistics provided. Unaffiliated voters were the largest group at 401,623, followed by 283,944 Democrats, 172,866 Republicans, 5,328 Libertarians and 695 Green Party voters.
Regardless of party affiliation, voters have several important dates approaching and a few things they can do now to prepare.
📅 Important Dates for Wake County Voters
Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.: Regular voter registration deadline
Oct. 15: Early voting begins
Oct. 20 at 5 p.m.: Absentee ballot request deadline
Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.: Early voting ends
Nov. 3: Election Day, with polls scheduled to be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
North Carolina's regular voter registration deadline is 25 days before an election. Eligible residents who miss that deadline can generally use same-day registration at an early voting site during the early voting period.
✅ Five Things You Can Do Now
Check your voter registration. Confirm that your name, address and other voter information are current, and review your sample ballot when available.
Decide how you plan to vote. North Carolina voters can cast ballots during early voting, on Election Day or through absentee-by-mail voting if eligible and requested by the deadline.
Check your photo ID. North Carolina voters are asked to show an acceptable photo ID when voting in person. Several types of identification are accepted, and registered voters who need one can obtain a free voter photo ID from their county board of elections. Voters who cannot present an acceptable ID may have options through the state's ID Exception Form process.
Know where to vote. Your Election Day polling place may differ from an early voting location, so check before heading out.
Review your sample ballot. Looking at the ballot in advance gives voters time to research the candidates and contests they will see before entering the voting booth.
📝 Who Can Register in North Carolina?
To register, a person generally must be a U.S. citizen, live in the county where they are registering for at least 30 days before Election Day, and be at least 18 by the date of the general election. People currently serving a felony sentence, including probation, post-release supervision or parole associated with that felony, are not eligible to register. Voting rights are automatically restored after completion of the felony sentence, but the person must register before voting.
Eligible North Carolina DMV customers can also use the state's online services to register or update certain voter information.
📌 Good to Know
North Carolina voters will be asked to show photo identification, but not having an acceptable photo ID in hand does not automatically mean someone cannot vote. State election officials provide procedures for voters who cannot show an ID, including provisional voting and permitted ID exceptions.
Wake County voters can use ReadyToVote.com for local election information, including registration, sample ballots, voting options and polling information. Statewide voter requirements and official guidance are available from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
With 42 days remaining, checking your registration, reviewing your ballot and deciding when and how you plan to vote can help avoid last-minute questions as Election Day approaches.

Storms, Heavy Rain Possible This Evening

Tuesday starts a major weather transition for Cary and the Triangle, with temperatures reaching the low 80s before a cold front moves through the area.
The best chance for storms arrives later Tuesday, with heavy rainfall possible around the evening commute. Localized flooding could develop where the heaviest rain falls.
Behind the front, cooler and more stable air arrives Wednesday and Thursday. Instead of thunderstorms, the Triangle could see cloudy skies, showers, drizzle and breezy conditions.
Temperatures will drop sharply, with highs around 70 Wednesday and 69 Thursday before gradually climbing into the mid-70s by Saturday. Read Full Story

Sold-Out Cary Crowd Sees Gotham Edge Courage 2-1
A packed house welcomed the North Carolina Courage home Saturday, with 10,551 fans filling First Horizon Stadium for the second-largest crowd in club history. The Courage battled league-leading Gotham FC to the end, but a stoppage-time goal handed North Carolina a heartbreaking 2-1 loss.
⚽ Gotham strikes early: Rookie Jordynn Dudley put Gotham FC ahead in the 8th minute, finishing a pass from Sam Kerr to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.
🔥 Staude finds the equalizer: After two potential Courage goals were wiped away for offside, Natalia Staude finally broke through in the 69th minute. She buried a rebound following a corner kick for her first goal in a Courage jersey, tying the match 1-1.
💔 Dudley delivers the late winner: Just when the match appeared headed for a draw, Dudley struck again in stoppage time, scoring from close range to give Gotham the 2-1 victory. The loss moved North Carolina to 12-10-3.
🏟️ Cary turns out in a big way: The announced crowd of 10,551 was the second-highest attendance in Courage history. It was also the club's third sellout of 2026, setting a new single-season club record.
The final score didn't go Cary's way, but a record third sellout showed just how much energy local fans are bringing to Courage soccer this season.
