Cary High School Rivalry Carries a Bigger Message
Panther Creek and Green Level high schools faced each other Friday night, but the annual football matchup also served a larger purpose: raising awareness about mental health.
For the third year, the schools partnered with NAMI Wake County to provide information and resources while encouraging students and families to talk more openly about mental health.
Fans wore black Live for More shirts in support of the effort, while NAMI Wake County provided resources at the stadium. Student-athletes also emphasized the importance of noticing when someone may be struggling and encouraging them to seek support.
The schools hope to continue the tradition, using the community atmosphere surrounding high school sports to keep mental health conversations visible.

Monday's 30-inch water main break in Cary's Central Pressure Zone left more than just low water pressure in its wake, it also left residents with a clear opinion on what they need most when infrastructure fails. With a precautionary boil-water advisory in place and N.C. 55 traffic disrupted, we asked readers what matters most during a major water main break. The results point to one dominant concern.

The message from readers is unambiguous: when the water might not be safe to drink, that question overshadows everything else. Nearly half of respondents said clear guidance on water safety matters most, well ahead of updates, repair speed, or neighborhood-level detail. That's a reasonable instinct. A boil-water advisory affects daily life immediately, while road closures and repair timelines are secondary inconveniences.
At the same time, the write-in comments suggest the Town's communication has room to improve. Two respondents flagged the same gap from different angles: one said the affected-area map wasn't legible enough to tell whether their subdivision was included, and another suggested text alerts would help close that loop. With 54 total votes, this is a modest sample, worth treating as a directional read on reader sentiment rather than a precise measurement of townwide opinion.

Downtown Cary's dining scene keeps expanding, and readers are already voting with their appetites. With Lloyd's Full Service now open in a restored 1950s service station at Chatham and Academy, K38 Baja Grill settling into its seventh location on E. Chatham St., and Doherty's Irish Pub still to come in the former Spirits Pub & Grub space, we asked Cary Spotlight readers which new spot they're most excited to try. The results show one clear early favorite.

That's a strong signal for a restaurant that's only just opened, likely driven by curiosity about the restored gas station space and its ties to the team behind The Durham and The Mayton.
K38 Baja Grill lands a respectable second, suggesting Cary's appetite for Baja-inspired flavors travels well beyond its original coastal concept. Notably, "I'm trying all of them!" edged out both Doherty's and Insomnia Cookies, hinting that readers see this cluster of openings less as a competition and more as a full night out.
Doherty's new location, which hasn't even opened yet at the time the poll was published, still pulled a real share of the vote, a good early sign for anticipated demand once it launches. Loyalty to established Cary favorites remains modest but present, tied with Insomnia Cookies at the bottom of the pack.
Final Thoughts
Looks like Lloyd's has the town's attention, but if the write-in energy is any indication, plenty of readers are planning a full tour of Cary's newest tables before picking a favorite.

A: Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte was nicknamed "The Little Corporal" (Le Petit Caporal). His soldiers gave him the nickname during the Italian Campaign of 1796–1797 as a sign of respect and endearment. He often worked closely with his men and would personally help sight artillery cannons, a task usually done by a corporal.
The name did not refer to his height. At about 5 feet 7 inches tall, Napoleon was actually of average height for a Frenchman of his era. The myth that he was unusually short came from British political propaganda and cartoons.
