RDU Travelers Getting a New Nonstop Option to Mexico
Raleigh-Durham International Airport is adding another international destination with new nonstop Volaris service to Guadalajara, Mexico.
Flights begin Oct. 16 and will operate three days a week aboard a 238-seat Airbus A321neo. It will be Volaris' first route serving RDU.
The connection links the Research Triangle with Guadalajara, a major Mexican technology center and the largest hub in the Volaris network. That could make the route useful for business travelers as well as people visiting family or vacationing in Mexico.
Guadalajara becomes the third Mexican destination accessible nonstop from RDU, joining year-round service to Mexico City and seasonal flights to Cancun.

Cary Readers Split on $680M Wake County School Bond
Nine Wake County schools dealt with AC failures this week as classroom temperatures climbed into the 80s, forcing early pickups and stopgap fixes like fans and extra water breaks, a preview of the roughly $200 million the district says it needs just for HVAC replacements. That shortfall is part of what's riding on the $680 million bond headed to November's ballot, estimated to cost the average $450,000 homeowner about $22.50 more a year, so we asked Cary Spotlight readers where they land.

Support for the bond clears a majority when you combine the two "yes" options, over half of respondents back it in some form, with HVAC repairs specifically resonating given the framing of the question. But the opposition isn't fringe either: roughly a third of readers are either against the bond outright or uneasy about what it'll cost them. A meaningful slice also just wants more transparency on where the $680 million actually goes before they'll commit either way. This reads less as a rubber stamp and more as conditional support, readers want the upgrades but expect accountability on the spending.

Several readers pushed back on the cost, with concerns centering on already-rising taxes and questions about who benefits most from continued growth and development in the county. One reader specifically noted that fixed-income seniors are feeling squeezed by the tax burden.
Others raised process questions rather than opposing the bond itself, one reader asked why routine maintenance like HVAC replacement wasn't already built into the district's budget, comparing it to a homeowner planning ahead for a roof or AC replacement.
