GoCary Celebrates 25 Years of Connecting Cary
GoCary is celebrating 25 years of public transportation in Cary, marking a milestone for a system that has provided more than 5.75 million passenger trips since service began in 2001.
The transit system started as C-Tran, offering Door to Door transportation for seniors and people with disabilities. Cary added its first five fixed bus routes in 2005, and C-Tran became GoCary in 2016 as part of a regional transit branding effort.
Since then, the system has expanded with additional routes, Sunday service, real-time bus tracking and connections to transportation services across the Triangle.
GoCary now works with regional partners including GoTriangle, GoRaleigh, GoApex, NCSU, the Morrisville Smart Shuttle and GoWake Access. More than 120 employees support the system through operations, maintenance, planning, customer service and community outreach.
🎉 Celebrate During Try Transit Week
The community is invited to celebrate during Try Transit Week, Sept. 8-12.
🚌 Sept. 8, 3-6 p.m. at Cary Depot: GoCary will host its 25th Anniversary Celebration and Transit Fair. Residents can meet regional transit partners, learn about available services and provide input on the Wake Bus Plan.
📚 Sept. 9, 1-3 p.m. at Cary Regional Library: A Try Transit pop-up will give residents another opportunity to learn about GoCary and share feedback on the future of bus service in Wake County.
GoCary is also looking toward its next chapter. Future plans include a new transit operations and maintenance facility, a multimodal center in downtown Cary and potential Bus Rapid Transit connections.

Cary Power Outage Blamed on Helicopter During Extreme Heat
Thousands of Cary residents and businesses lost electricity Thursday after a helicopter conducting vegetation management work for railroad operations damaged Duke Energy infrastructure.
The incident affected four substations and a transmission line, with the outage hitting homes and businesses, including gas stations unable to operate their pumps.
The outage coincided with extreme heat, increasing concerns for residents without air conditioning and people attending outdoor sporting events.
Duke Energy said the outage was related to the helicopter incident rather than an inability to meet increased electricity demand during the heat wave.

A: Saab (but Volvo did it better).
Saab was the first car manufacturer to include seat belts as a standard feature. The Swedish automaker made two-point lap belts standard equipment across its lineup in 1958. When people think of seat belts and automotive safety, Volvo is usually the first name that comes to mind because they invented the modern three-point seat belt.
Before Volvo's breakthrough, cars that had seat belts used a basic two-point lap belt. While better than nothing, lap belts were dangerous in high-speed crashes because they only secured the waist, causing the occupant's upper body to fly forward and often causing severe internal injuries.
Volvo patented the design but immediately opened the patent for free to all competing automakers. Volvo’s executives decided that saving lives was far more important than corporate profit.
