Pro Pickleball Takes Over Cary With Millions in Expected Economic Impact
Cary Tennis Park is hosting the Veolia Pickleball National Championships through Sunday, bringing more than 1,400 players and some of the sport's biggest names to town.
The Cary Chamber of Commerce estimates the event could generate between $2.5 million and $3 million for the local economy as players and fans visit hotels, restaurants and other businesses.
Beyond the matches, Thursday's Canes Night will bring several Carolina Hurricanes stars and the Stanley Cup to the tournament. Organizers are also providing cooling areas during the expected heat and incorporating sustainability measures throughout the event. Read Full Report

FBI Warns NC Parents About Disturbing Online Threat Targeting Children
The FBI says a disturbing form of online exploitation is increasingly targeting young people through gaming, social media and other digital platforms.
Perpetrators may first gain a child's trust and then use compromising material, threats or other forms of coercion to demand harmful acts. Children ages 11 to 17 are among the most commonly affected.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported more than 3,000 cases of sadistic online exploitation in 2025, a significant increase from the previous year.
Parents are encouraged to discuss online safety with their children and make sure they know they can immediately tell a trusted adult if someone online threatens, blackmails or pressures them.
To report a cyber crime, visit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline.
An FBI representative said, “If you have evidence your child or someone else you know may be a victim of a crime using the tactics outline above, report it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center. You can also contact 1-800-CALL FBI [1-800-225-5324] or your local police department. If it’s an immediate, life-threatening emergency, dial 911.” Read Full Story

Courage Rally Falls Short in 3-2 Loss
The North Carolina Courage nearly erased a three-goal deficit Saturday night but came up just short in a 3-2 road loss to the Kansas City Current. Despite the defeat, Evelyn Ijeh and Ashley Sanchez made more NWSL history as the Courage moved to 11-8-3 on the season.
⚽ Kansas City builds an early cushion: The Current raced out to a 3-0 lead behind an own goal and strikes from Croix Bethune and Michelle Cooper, leaving North Carolina with a steep hill to climb.
🔥 Ijeh starts the comeback: Evelyn Ijeh scored her 11th goal of the season just before halftime, finishing a cutback from Ashley Sanchez on a quick counterattack. Ijeh and Sanchez have now combined for 26 goals, tying the NWSL single-season record for a pair of teammates.
🎯 Jackson pulls Courage within one: Riley Jackson converted from the penalty spot in the 77th minute for her third goal of the season. The goal made it 3-2, but North Carolina couldn't find the equalizer before the final whistle.
⭐ Williams reaches major milestone: Ryan Williams surpassed 10,000 NWSL regular-season minutes, with every one of them coming in a Courage uniform. She became just the 20th player in league history to reach 10,000 minutes with a single club.
The comeback didn't quite reach the finish line, but the Courage once again showed plenty of fight while adding another memorable milestone to Cary's soccer story.
