Cary Fall Program Registration Begins Aug. 5
It's almost time to sign up for Cary's popular fall programs.
Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, for Cary residents, with nonresident registration beginning Aug. 19. Registration for Fall Senior Trips opens Aug. 12 for residents and Aug. 19 for nonresidents.
This season's lineup includes hundreds of classes, activities, workshops, and community events for all ages.
Some of the featured offerings include:

💰 Financial planning workshops
⚖️ Legal essentials seminars
❤️ Health and wellness programs
💻 Technology classes for seniors

Wake County Offers Free Pet Adoptions Throughout August
The Wake County Animal Center has waived all adoption fees for dogs and cats during the month of August.
The shelter currently has more than 160 adoptable pets, with additional dogs, cats, and kittens living in foster homes while waiting for permanent families.
All adopted pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, making it easier for families to bring home a new companion.
Officials hope the promotion will help reduce overcrowding and create room for more animals in need.

NC Courage Roll to Biggest NWSL Win of 2026
The North Carolina Courage delivered their most dominant performance of the season Friday night, beating the Orlando Pride 5-0 before 7,232 fans at WakeMed Soccer Park. The victory improved the Courage to 7-6-3 and marked the largest winning margin in the NWSL this season.
Weekend Highlights:
⚽ Evelyn Ijeh makes history: Ijeh scored in the 26th, 35th and 70th minutes to complete a hat trick, becoming the first Swedish player to score three goals in an NWSL match. It was also the eighth hat trick in Courage history, the most by any club in the league.
🌟 Teenagers strike early: Lauryn Thompson opened the scoring in the 4th minute, becoming the youngest player to score for the Courage in an NWSL regular-season match. Erica Meg Parkinson supplied the assist, creating just the third teenager-to-teenager goal in league history.
🥅 Ashley Sanchez stays hot: Sanchez finished the scoring in stoppage time with her 10th goal of the season, doubling her previous career best and moving into second place in the Golden Boot race.
🧤 Courage defense shuts the door: Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan made two saves to preserve the clean sheet, while captain Natalie Jacobs made her first start since March 21 and new signing Vilde Bøe Risa made her NWSL debut.
Five goals, a hat trick and a roaring Cary crowd made this a summer soccer night to remember.

A: Arthur Ashe
Arthur Ashe (won the U.S. in 1968 and the Wimbledon in 1975). In addition to these achievements, he also won the Australian Open in 1970.
He founded the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health before his death from AIDS-related pneumonia at the age of 49 on February 6, 1993. On June 20, 1993, he was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by United States president Bill Clinton. The Arthur Ashe Stadium, the main court for the US Open and the largest tennis arena in the world, is named in his honor.
