The Truth Behind the New "GLP-1 Friendly" Food Labels
The short answer: Don't rely on the label alone.
As more Americans use GLP-1 weight loss medications like Wegovy and Zepbound, grocery stores, restaurants, and meal delivery companies are promoting foods labeled "GLP-1 Friendly." But dietitians say the term is largely a marketing claim, not an official nutrition standard.
While some products carrying the label are high in protein and fiber, there is no FDA or USDA definition that every manufacturer must follow. That means two products with the same label can have very different nutritional value.
Instead of focusing on the front of the package, experts recommend reading the Nutrition Facts label and ingredient list to determine whether a food is a healthy choice.
What should you look for?
✅ Protein: Aim for 20 to 30 grams per meal and at least 15 grams per snack.
🌾 Fiber: Look for about 7 to 10 grams per meal and at least 3 grams per snack.
🧂 Lower sodium: Choose meals with less than 500 milligrams of sodium when possible.
❤️ Limit saturated fat: Keep it below 20% of the daily value per serving.
🍬 Watch added sugar: Look for products with minimal added sugars.
🥗 Choose whole foods: Lean proteins, vegetables, beans, fruit, Greek yogurt, whole grains, and healthy fats remain some of the best options.
Are meal kits and restaurant meals okay?
Yes. Experts recommend choosing meals that include:
Lean protein
Vegetables or fruit
Fiber-rich foods like beans or whole grains
Healthy fats such as avocado, nuts, or olive oil
The goal isn't to find foods with a "GLP-1 Friendly" sticker. It's to choose meals that provide the most nutrition in smaller portions, since these medications naturally reduce appetite.

Just curious…
How much do you trust health claims on food packaging?
Can You Eat Lettuce Right Now?
Here's What You Need to Know.

The short answer is yes, but avoid recalled iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico.
Federal health officials say reports suggesting the Food and Drug Administration had backed away from its investigation are incorrect. While one laboratory sample that initially tested positive for the parasite Cyclospora turned out to be a false positive, the FDA says the evidence linking the outbreak to recalled Taylor Farms de Mexico iceberg lettuce remains strong.
The voluntary recall is still in effect, and consumers should not eat any recalled products. Investigators continue to trace the outbreak, which has sickened more than 7,000 people, and are still examining whether other foods may also be involved.
What should you avoid?
Recalled Taylor Farms de Mexico iceberg lettuce.
Any products included in the company's voluntary recall, including some shredded iceberg lettuce and salad blends sold to restaurants and food service providers.
Check packaged lettuce for "best if used by" dates and product codes if you purchased bagged iceberg lettuce recently.
Can you eat romaine or other lettuce?
Yes, but with caution.
Health officials have not advised consumers to avoid all lettuce. However, because the investigation is ongoing, experts recommend buying whole heads of lettuce instead of pre-packaged salad mixes whenever possible and washing produce thoroughly before eating.
Is Taco Bell safe?
Taco Bell says it has removed all recalled lettuce from its restaurants nationwide. While officials believe the affected products are no longer being served, consumers who remain concerned can choose menu items without lettuce until the investigation is complete.
Food safety recommendations
Experts recommend:
🥬 Buy whole heads of lettuce instead of bagged salad mixes.
🚿 Wash fresh produce thoroughly under running water.
🗑️ Throw away any recalled lettuce products.
🌿 Wash herbs like cilantro and basil carefully before use.
🍓 Consider frozen raspberries instead of fresh, since they are difficult to clean thoroughly.
🔥 Cook vegetables when possible, as heat can reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
Health officials emphasize that the investigation is still underway, and additional foods could be identified as more information becomes available.
Has the recent lettuce recall changed how you shop for fresh produce?

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A: bijou
The French word for jewel is bijou. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, early American theater and vaudeville owners adopted the name to give their movie houses a charming, exotic, and upscale appeal.
