Early Morning Burglary Shakes NC State University Dorm, Suspect at Large

A burglary occurred early Wednesday at NC State's Wood Hall A, where an intruder entered a student suite through an unlocked window.

Waking the residents, the situation quickly escalated, leading to a brief chase as the burglar fled on a bicycle with stolen cash and a gaming controller.

The university police, alerted by the incident, have issued a Wolf Alert and are conducting an investigation. The event has heightened concerns about safety among students. Read full story

Million-Dollar Dream Realized for Cary Man in Lottery Scratch-Off

Cary resident Satyaprasad Kiran won a $1 million prize from the $10 Million Spectacular scratch-off lottery game after purchasing a ticket at a Snack Shop located on N.C. 55.

He claimed his prize at the lottery headquarters, opting for a lump sum payment which, after taxes, amounted to $429,014. The $10 Million Spectacular game, which still has numerous high-value prizes available, includes top prizes of $10 million, along with several $1 million and $100,000 awards. Read full story

Cary Man Receives 44-Month Prison Sentence for Real Estate Ponzi Scheme

Cary's Kumar Arun Neppalli has been sentenced to 44 months in prison for running a Ponzi scheme. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud, having conned several individuals under the pretense of investing their money in a real estate project in Orange County.

Neppalli used his employment status to lend credibility to his claims, promising quick returns and profits, and encouraging secrecy among his victims to perpetuate the fraud. Read full story

KōMANA Brewing Company in Cary is hosting a CharacterKids Karaoke Event featuring Rapunzel and Spider-Man, offering a family-friendly evening with music, dress-up, and a meet and greet session. The event includes both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and encourages family bonding through singing and dancing.

Good to Know Before You Go.

1. Why is a brewing company putting on this event? We are a family-friendly brewery, that holds events for parents to enjoy with their children. Karaoke is something our family has enjoyed for years, we found it helped our daughters with their reading and helps build confidence being in front of a crowd.

2. Is there alcohol involved? We are a Craft Kombucha and Beer Brewery, so yes, there is alcohol available for the parents to enjoy but we pride ourselves on our Gluten-Free and Non-Alcoholic options. We heavily promote our brewery as the place to be for a NA&A* environment. Non-Alcoholic Beer, Kombucha, and Sparkling Hop Water are available and for the children we have a variety of juice boxes for sale but we serve lemonade during the event for free!

*NA&A = Non-Alcoholic and Alcoholic Beverages are available

3. Is it kid friendly? This event is FOR the KIDS! We created this event for parents to enjoy with their children in an exciting new way. Parents get to see the fun quirky side of kids and watch them develop confidence from one song to the next!

4. Are there kid-friendly or beverages for people you don't drink? Answered in question #2….but Kombucha is a great beverage for those that don’t drink alcohol. It is a Non-Alcoholic FUNCTIONAL beverage, meaning it has health benefits! From probiotics, polyphenols and acetic acids just to name a few it’s a beverage that not only tastes amazing but helps your gut health! You won’t find none of the vinegar you get in store-bought kombucha, we only serve “Fresh” Kombucha that is effervescent, aromatic and delicious!

5. Do you have to sign up to get pictures taken with the characters? No. The character meet and greet is from 5-6pm so we set up an area for photo ops but the characters will walk around and be sure to greet everyone and get an opportunity for a picture! Special News, we will also be featuring a face painter at this event so that’s an exciting new addition to our monthly events!

Cary's roots can be found in a 1750s settlement called Bradford's Ordinary. However, the man credited with founding Cary was Allison Francis "Frank" Page, who was its first developer, mayor, postmaster, and railroad agent.
