Wake County Property Values Surge; Tax Office Advises on Appeal Process
Following Wake County's recent property re-evaluation, homeowners are facing substantial increases in property values, with residential properties rising by an average of 53% and commercial properties by 45% since 2020.
Tax Administrator Marcus Kinrade clarifies that these increases will not directly correlate to similar increases in property taxes. He encourages property owners to review their property details for errors and to contact the county tax office for corrections. Kinrade explains the appeal process, offering both informal and formal options. The informal appeal can be done online, while the formal appeal requires presenting before a review board.
Two deadlines are set for the appeals process: March 1st for informal appeals and May 15th for formal review requests. Click here for appeals process info.

Meow City: A Purr-fect, One-of-a-Kind Boutique For Cat Lovers in Cary
Meow City, Cary's first and only cat-themed store, is making waves in North Carolina with its unique concept dedicated entirely to cats and their enthusiasts. Opened in June 2023 by Aleksandra "Alex" Trepka, a passionate cat lover and rescue volunteer, this boutique has quickly become a local favorite.
At Meow City, visitors can explore a vibrant selection of cat toys, apparel,
cat-cessories, and an array of cat-themed gifts for people of all ages. The store stands out for its commitment to sourcing products from small businesses, women-owned ventures, and local artisans, ensuring that each item is sustainable and safe for both pets and humans.
Beyond just being a retail space, Meow City plays a vital role in the community. Alex's passion for cat welfare shines through in the store's efforts to support local cat rescues. The boutique regularly hosts adoption events, fundraises, and contributes a portion of its profits to these causes. Additionally, Meow City participates in raising awareness about cat welfare and provides support to rescue auctions and raffles.
The store's unique selling point lies in its cat-only focus, offering a range of goods that are as unique and individual as cats themselves. From stylish cat furniture to hand-crafted jewelry and cat-inspired household textiles, Meow City is a treasure trove for cat lovers. Unlike larger, generalized pet stores, Meow City offers a cat-centric community space, celebrating the quirky and affectionate nature of our feline friends.
Customers visit Meow City from all over Cary and neighboring cities, drawn by its reputation as a hub for all things cat-related. The store's future looks bright, with plans for more adoption events and continuously evolving product offerings to cater to the ever-changing needs of cat lovers.
In a world where dog-focused stores are the norm, Meow City stands out as a testament to the joy and community spirit that cats bring to our lives. Whether you're a cat owner, admirer, or just curious, Meow City invites you to leap into a world dedicated to celebrating and supporting these beloved creatures.

Wolfpack Women Hold Top-10 Spot in AP Rankings After Mixed Fortunes
The NC State women's basketball team experienced a slight drop in the AP Poll rankings, moving from 4th to 7th place following a week that included a defeat to Miami and a victory over Duke.
Their current season record stands at 16-2 overall, with a 4-2 record in the ACC. The loss to Miami was marked by defensive challenges and a low shooting percentage, but the team rebounded with a strong win against Duke, bolstered by junior guard Aziaha James' career-high 33 points.
The Wolfpack will face upcoming road games against Clemson and Boston College, with a notable home game against UNC on the horizon. NC State leads seven ACC teams in the top-25 rankings. Read full story
Hurricanes' Dominance Unrewarded in Defeat to Wild
Facing the Minnesota Wild without key player Andrei Svechnikov, the Carolina Hurricanes put up a strong fight but ultimately fell 5-2.
They dominated early play, outshooting Minnesota significantly, and Martin Necas scored the opening goal. However, Kirill Kaprizov equalized for the Wild and later scored again, giving Minnesota the lead.
Carolina's Michael Bunting tied the game in the third period, but Joel Eriksson Ek quickly responded with the winning goal for the Wild. Kaprizov's hat trick and Jake Middleton's additional goal finalized the 5-2 score, despite Carolina's spirited effort and Minnesota goaltender Filip Gustavsson's crucial saves. Read full story
