Storm Damage Forces Early Closure of NC Chinese Lantern Festival

Severe storms have led to the early closure of the North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival, scheduled to end on January 14.

Significant damage to two major lanterns at Cary's Koka Booth Amphitheatre made timely repairs unfeasible. Crews worked to dismantle structures amid concerns of further storms.

A comprehensive assessment revealed extensive structural damage, prioritizing public safety and leading to the decision to close for the season. Affected ticket holders will receive emails regarding refunds. Read Full Story

LA Police Find Some of NC's 'Grinch Tequila Heist' Bottles"

The Los Angeles Police Department has retrieved some of the 19,000 tequila bottles stolen in December from Wilmington's Hacienda Chactun Tequila. The recovery occurred during an unrelated criminal investigation.

Nine pallets of tequila were found, but the company intends to destroy them due to potential safety risks, as they were out of their supervision.

The theft, dubbed the "Grinch Tequila Heist," involved a fictitious pickup by freight drivers who diverted the shipment from North Carolina to California. The status of arrests related to the heist is yet unknown. Read full story
