Storm Watch: North Carolina Braces for Rain and Ice, Another Storm Looms
North Carolina is under a winter weather advisory as it anticipates a diverse storm this Saturday, which is predicted to bring snow, freezing rain, and predominantly cold rain across the state.
Areas northwest of the Triangle and near the Virginia border could see a brief period of freezing rain early Saturday, posing travel risks. The mountains and foothills are expected to face the most significant impacts, with higher ice accumulation.
While central North Carolina won't likely see snow from this storm, another more intense system is forecasted for Tuesday, bringing heavier rain, strong winds, and the risk of storms, with temperatures in the 60s. Residents are advised to monitor updates as the weather situation evolves.

NC Insurance Companies Push for Steep Rate Increase
Insurance companies in North Carolina, represented by the North Carolina Rate Bureau, are seeking an average rate increase of 42.2% for homeowners' insurance, with the most significant hikes proposed for coastal regions.
This move could nearly double insurance costs in counties like Brunswick and Carteret. In contrast, central areas like Durham and Wake counties could see a 39.8% increase. The proposal, slated to take effect on August 1 if approved, follows a previously settled increase of 7.9% in 2020 after an initial request for a 24.5% hike.
The public has the opportunity to comment on the latest proposal, after which the Department of Insurance will decide to either negotiate, approve, or deny the requested rates. If no agreement is reached, a hearing may be convened.
