RDU's Banner Year Signals Surge in 2024 Travel Trends

In 2023, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) experienced an unprecedented surge in travel, reflecting a nationwide trend of increased airport activity.

With the addition of new airlines and international destinations, RDU is poised for a bustling 2024. Experts, including Mallory Dumond from Travelmation, suggest that the upward trajectory in travel will continue, with early signs indicating numbers may match or exceed those of the previous year.

Tragic Overboard Incident on Royal Caribbean Cruise Leads to Fruitless Search

During a voyage to the Bahamas on Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas, a 41-year-old passenger fell overboard, leading to an immediate and extensive search effort.

The incident, which took place 127 miles east of Charleston, South Carolina, sparked widespread concern among fellow passengers, with one expressing deep distress upon hearing the news.

Despite a six-hour search by the ship's crew and an eight-hour, 1,625-square-mile effort by the U.S. Coast Guard, the man was not found, and the search was reluctantly suspended.

This event adds to a concerning trend, as at least 10 individuals have fallen from cruise ships this year, with only two surviving. The Vision of the Seas, known for its amenities including a rock-climbing wall and swimming pools, continues its journey around the Bahamas. Read Full Story

Gastrointestinal Outbreak Delays Ship’s Departure for Deep Cleaning

In a recent turn of events, the P&O Cruises' Ventura, a grand-class ship renowned for its capacity to accommodate over 3,000 guests, faced an unexpected delay. The ship's embarkation was postponed to allow for extensive deep cleaning following a reported gastrointestinal outbreak among the passengers.

This measure, while altering the travel plans for many, underscores the cruise line's commitment to health and safety protocols, especially considering similar occurrences on various vessels globally. Such rigorous actions, though not uncommon in the industry, highlight the ongoing challenges cruise lines face in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for travelers.
