Explore Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve

Credit: Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve
If you're looking for a place that feels a little different from your typical piedmont park, Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve is worth the trip. Tucked away at 140 acres along Swift Creek in Cary, this preserve is home to something rare — a grove of Eastern Hemlock trees that you'd normally only find in the Appalachian Mountains. These tall, ancient trees have survived here since the last ice age, thanks to the cool, shaded bluffs that create their own mini-mountain climate. Walking into this forest, you might honestly forget you're just a few miles from downtown Cary.
The preserve has about three miles of trails winding through upland forest, ravines, and floodplain along Swift Creek. Trails like the Swift Creek Loop and Chestnut Oak Loop offer a mix of mulched paths, wooden boardwalks, and scenic overlooks where you can look out over the treetops. A heads-up for families: some trails include stairs — the Swift Creek Loop alone has about 100 steps — so it's better suited for kids who are steady on their feet than for strollers. Leashed dogs are welcome on all trails, and the Stevens Nature Center, a 3,700-square-foot facility on-site, features nature exhibits, a mini-theater, a gift shop, and year-round programs for all ages.
Bird lovers, this one's for you. The preserve is home to more than 130 bird species. Along Swift Creek you might spot herons, kingfishers, and waterthrushes, while Barred Owls are resident favorites on the Swift Creek Loop. Spring migration is a particularly special time to visit — warblers, vireos, tanagers, and Summer Tanagers pass through, and the elevated overlooks make it easy to spot them in the canopy before the leaves fully fill in. Bring your binoculars and don't rush. This is a place that rewards slow, quiet walks.

Hello, Seattle!
Gateway to Coffee, Culture, and the Great Pacific Northwest

Welcome to Seattle, Washington — a city that somehow makes rainy days feel romantic and perfectly fits a cup of coffee in every hand. From RDU, both Alaska Airlines and Delta offer nonstop flights to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), putting you just under six hours from one of America's most exciting cities. Perched between Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains, Seattle blends a buzzing food scene, world-class museums, and jaw-dropping natural beauty into one unforgettable destination.
Why Visit Seattle?
Pike Place Market:
One of the oldest continuously operating farmers markets in the country, Pike Place is the beating heart of Seattle. Since 1907, this bustling market near the downtown waterfront has been the go-to spot for local produce, artwork, and vinyl records — and yes, the fish tossing is every bit as fun as it looks. The Space Needle & Seattle Center:
Seattle's most iconic landmark offers views that will stop you in your tracks. Three of Seattle's top attractions — the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and the Museum of Pop Culture — are all located at Seattle Center, making it easy to spend a full, unforgettable day in one spot.Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP):
This one-of-a-kind museum is a love letter to music, science fiction, and pop culture. Seattle has long been one of the nation's top live music cities, the hometown of celebrated acts like Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Brandi Carlile — and MoPOP tells that story better than anywhere else in the world.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A) Shark
A dogfish is a type of small, bottom-dwelling shark belonging to the order Squaliformes. As cartilaginous fish, they have skeletons made of tough, flexible cartilage rather than bone. They are highly adaptable predators known for their slender bodies and pointed snouts.
Dogfish are an important part of the marine ecosystem and are often found in shallow coastal waters. While they are considered a nuisance by some fishermen, they are sustainably managed and frequently utilized in Europe as the primary fish for traditional "fish and chips"
