Explore the Page-Walker Arts & History Center

Right in the heart of downtown Cary, the Page-Walker Arts & History Center is one of those places that can genuinely surprise you — in the best possible way. The building itself tells a story: a beautifully restored Second Empire-style hotel built in 1868, it's one of the oldest structures in town and sits on the National Register of Historic Places.

Step inside and you'll find two floors of rotating art galleries featuring talented regional artists, a third-floor Cary Heritage Museum packed with the town's history, and spaces that have been buzzing with concerts, classes, and community events for decades. Best of all, admission is always free.

The Page-Walker is much more than a museum — it's an active gathering place where the community comes together year-round. Throughout the week, you can drop in for language arts or music classes, wellness workshops, and history programs for all ages. The center also hosts Performances at the Page, an intimate concert series held right in the main hall.

Reviewers consistently mention the hall's exceptional acoustics, making even small performances feel special. Add in annual favorites like Herbfest, the Old North State Storytelling Festival, and rotating gallery shows, and there's almost always something worth coming back for.

Before you head out, make sure to explore the grounds. The Anne B. Kratzer Educational Garden — tucked just outside the historic Page Smokehouse — gives visitors a close look at herbs used through the centuries, both old and modern.

Just around the corner, the pollinator garden outside the side entrance draws butterflies, bees, and all kinds of busy insects, making it a fun stop for curious kids. The beautifully landscaped surroundings also make this one of Cary's most popular wedding ceremony spots, and once you see the building and gardens together, it's easy to understand why.

Hello, Naples!
Gateway to Ancient Ruins, World-Class Pizza, and the Soul of Southern Italy

Welcome to Naples, Italy — a city where ancient history sits right around the corner from your lunch table, where the smell of wood-fired pizza fills the streets, and where the spirit of southern Italy hits you at full volume from the moment you arrive.

Getting here from Raleigh-Durham (RDU) requires a connecting flight — most travelers route through major European hubs like Rome, London, or Frankfurt — but Naples International Airport (NAP) is well-served by international carriers, and the journey is absolutely worth it.

Once you land, you'll find a city that's been alive for over 2,500 years, sitting right on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea with a volcano in the distance and a whole lot of character to spare.

Why Visit Naples?

  • Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius: One of the most extraordinary day trips in all of Europe, the ancient ruins of Pompeii lie just a short train ride from the city center and offer a jaw-dropping window into Roman life frozen in time by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Walk through preserved streets, homes, and public squares, and then head up to the volcano itself for sweeping panoramic views of the Bay of Naples — an experience that's hard to shake once you've had it.

  • Spaccanapoli and the Historic Center: This famous street slices straight through the heart of Naples' UNESCO-listed old town, and walking it feels like stepping inside a living, breathing postcard. Street vendors, tiny artisan workshops, baroque churches, and the irresistible smell of fresh sfogliatella pastries fill every block. Don't miss the Cappella Sansevero along the way, home to the stunning "Veiled Christ" marble sculpture — one of the most technically remarkable works of art you'll ever see in person.

  • The National Archaeological Museum: Widely considered one of the greatest museums of ancient art in the world, this stunning collection houses the finest treasures recovered from Pompeii and Herculaneum, including massive classical sculptures, detailed mosaics, and objects from everyday Roman life that will leave history lovers speechless. Give yourself at least a half-day here — you'll want it.
