Celebrate Bike Month in Cary

Every May, Cary turns into one big cycling celebration — and 2026 is shaping up to be the best one yet. With more than 100 miles of paved greenways now connecting parks, schools, neighborhoods, and shopping centers, Cary gives riders of every age and skill level a place to roll. Whether you pedal to work, to the park, or just around the block with the kids, Bike Month is your invitation to get out and enjoy everything the two-wheeled life has to offer right here in town.

The month kicked off May 1 at Bands, Bites & Boats at Bond Metro Park, where a community bike parade got everyone moving and celebrating together. From there, the calendar fills up fast: join the Pizza Ride with Trek on May 4, drop the kids off on two wheels for Bike to School Day on May 6, and let the adults shine on Bike to Work Day on May 15. Cap off the month in style with the Light Up Night Ride on May 21 — a fun, easy, social cruise through Cary's streets after dark.

And don't forget: free snow cones are waiting all month long at Bond Park for anyone who bikes to the park.

Want to add a little friendly competition to your rides? Grab a free Bike Bingo card at carync.gov/bikemonth and challenge yourself to complete squares all month long — like riding to a local park, biking with a friend, or trying a new greenway segment. Submit your completed card by May 31 for a chance to win one of three bike safety bundles. It's the kind of fun that gets you outside, exploring the community, and racking up miles without it feeling like a workout.

Hello, Hamburg!
Gateway to Harbor Views, History, and a World-Class Music Scene

Welcome to Hamburg, Germany — a city that has been shaped by the sea for nearly a thousand years. Sitting on the Elbe River just 60 miles from the North Sea, Hamburg is Germany's second-largest city and one of Europe's busiest ports. It mixes old-world charm with bold, modern architecture, and a nightlife scene that rivals anywhere on the continent.

There are no direct flights from RDU to Hamburg's Airport (HAM), but connecting service is easy to find through major hubs like Frankfurt, Amsterdam, or London — with airlines such as Lufthansa, British Airways, and Air Canada making the link. Once you arrive, you'll find a city full of character, canals, and surprises around every corner.

Why Visit Hamburg?

  • The Elbphilharmonie: Hamburg's crown jewel of modern architecture, this stunning concert hall sits right on the harbor and has become one of Germany's most recognized buildings since opening in 2017. Its wave-shaped glass rooftop and dazzling public plaza — called the Plaza — are free to visit, offering some of the best 360-degree views of the city and the waterfront below.

  • Speicherstadt (The Historic Warehouse District): This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most photogenic spots in all of northern Europe, with red-brick warehouses lining a web of canals straight out of another era. Once used to store coffee, spices, and exotic goods, many of the buildings have been transformed into museums, galleries, and the wildly popular Miniatur Wunderland — the largest model railway exhibit in the world.

  • The Sunday Fish Market (Fischmarkt): Running every Sunday since 1703, this legendary open-air market down by the Elbe is part street fair, part cultural experience, and completely unique to Hamburg. Locals and tourists fill the stalls before sunrise, picking up fresh fish, tropical fruit, flowers, and street food while live bands keep the energy going — making it the perfect way to start your last morning in the city.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A) Penguins

Penguins are the primary birds that can swim and dive expertly but cannot fly in the air. Their wings have evolved into stiff, paddle-like flippers, allowing them to "fly" underwater at speeds up to 22 mph (35 km/h). They are highly specialized aquatic birds, primarily found in the Southern Hemisphere.
