Cary Honors Page-Walker Garden Volunteers for Decades of Service

Cary honored the Friends of the Page-Walker garden volunteers for nearly 50 years of work preserving and enriching the community’s natural spaces.

Summary
The Friends of the Page-Walker garden volunteers received Cary’s Earth Month Proclamation in recognition of their long-standing service. For nearly five decades, they have maintained and enhanced the gardens surrounding the Page-Walker Arts and History Center, contributing to the town’s natural beauty.

Their efforts include planting with a focus on pollinators and supporting ecological health, as well as engaging residents in appreciating local landscapes. The group’s work reflects a sustained commitment to environmental stewardship.

The proclamation underscores the importance of their contributions, both in preserving green spaces and in fostering community connection. Their legacy continues to shape how residents experience and value Cary’s natural environment.

Cary Libraries Invite Residents to Explore, Connect and Celebrate

Wake County Public Libraries is celebrating National Library Week from April 19 to 25, highlighting the importance of libraries as community spaces for learning and connection. With 23 locations, the system continues to offer programs, resources and gathering spaces for residents across the county.

In Cary, residents can visit the Cary Regional Library and West Regional Library to take part in the celebration. This year’s theme, “Find Your Joy,” reflects the many ways people engage with their local libraries, from reading and research to attending events and connecting with others.

The system reported strong community engagement over the past year, with millions of visits, circulating materials and program participation. These numbers point to the continued relevance of libraries in everyday life.

A key event during the week is the National Outreach Day Bookmobile stop on April 22, offering residents a chance to explore the new mobile library service. Additional ways to participate include attending programs, sharing experiences online and thanking library staff.

Courage Players Shine on International Duty

The April international break gave several North Carolina Courage players a chance to represent their countries, and they made the most of it. From big-time goals to strong defensive work, Courage players were all over the action for teams across the world.

Weekend Highlights:

  • Riley Jackson stood out for the United States U-23 team, captaining all three matches in Spain and helping the Americans win the WU23 Friendlies. She set up a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, helped lead the U.S. through a PK win over Denmark, then had a huge final against France with 1 goal, 1 assist, and a key role in the 4-3 championship win.

  • Lauryn Thompson got valuable minutes with England U-19 in UEFA qualifying. After coming off the bench in a 5-0 win over Latvia, she started the next two matches and delivered 1 assist in the match against Wales, showing she can make plays even in a tough 1W-2L window for England.

  • Manaka Matsukubo saw action in all three of Japan’s matches against the United States, playing 45 minutes in each game. Japan finished the series 1W-2L, and while Matsukubo did not score, she stayed active in attack and kept pressure on the U.S. back line with several promising chances.

  • Kailen Sheridan, Carly Wickenheiser, and Evelyn Ijeh each had different international experiences, but all added to the Courage’s worldwide presence. Sheridan helped Canada finish second at the 2026 FIFA Series in Brazil, allowing just 2 goals on 10 shots on target across two starts, while Wickenheiser appeared in all three matches and logged 92 minutes. Ijeh did not see the field for Sweden, but remained part of a squad that split its two matches with a 2-1 loss to Denmark and a 1-0 win over Serbia.

It was another strong reminder that Cary is home to a club with talent making noise all over the soccer world.
