Triangle Drivers and Businesses Feel the Strain of Rising Gas Prices
Gas prices in North Carolina have risen rapidly in recent weeks, with the statewide average reaching $3.52 a gallon and Raleigh averaging $3.55, according to AAA. The increase, nearly 80 cents from a month ago, reflects broader pressure on fuel markets as the war with Iran continues.
Analysts at GasBuddy say the rise is not over. They expect another 10 cent increase by the end of the week and see no immediate path to lower prices. Their outlook suggests that any easing will depend on major changes in the Middle East supply situation, and even then, relief would not be immediate.
Drivers in the Triangle say they are already feeling the strain in their daily budgets. For workers and businesses that depend on road travel, the impact is even sharper. Higher gas prices are adding substantial costs week by week, especially for those who travel frequently between job sites.
Experts also warn that the effects could spread well beyond fuel. As shipping costs rise, consumers may soon see higher prices on groceries, clothing, and online deliveries. In that sense, the jump in gas prices may be only the first sign of a broader cost increase.
Just curious…

Courage Start Season with a Win
The NC Courage kicked off the 2026 regular season with an exciting 2-1 win over Racing Louisville on Saturday night in Cary. A record-opening crowd of 8,157 at First Horizon Stadium got to watch Ashley Sanchez score twice, including the late game-winner.
Weekend Highlights:
NC Courage 2, Racing Louisville 1: Ashley Sanchez delivered the big moment with her first career brace, scoring in the 29th minute and again in the 86th minute to power the Courage to a season-opening win. Her late winner sent the home crowd into a roar and gave North Carolina a strong start to 2026.
Record crowd brings the energy: A club-record 8,157 fans packed First Horizon Stadium for the home opener, marking the second straight year the Courage have set a new opener attendance record. It was a big sign of growing excitement around women’s soccer in Cary.
Kailen Sheridan shines in debut: Making her NC Courage debut, Kailen Sheridan came up with several key saves, including a huge stop in the 84th minute on a point-blank chance that kept the match level. Those saves gave the Courage the chance they needed before Sanchez struck the winner.
New faces and familiar returns: Lauryn Thompson, a Wake Forest native, made her professional debut in the 74th minute, while Carly Wickenheiser also made her NWSL debut. Late in the match, Feli Rauch returned from injury in the 89th minute, giving fans another reason to cheer.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A: North America
Turkeys originated in North America, where they evolved over 20 million years ago and were domesticated by indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica (modern-day Mexico and the US) roughly 2,000 years ago. These birds are native only to the Americas, with two species (the Wild Turkey and Ocellated Turkey) found in North and Central America.
