Free Cultural Program Highlights Indian Heritage in Cary
Hum Sub will present Basant Bahar 2026 on Sunday, March 8, at the Cary Arts Center, bringing an afternoon of cultural performances and spiritual reflection to Cary.
This year’s theme, Dharma: A Spiritual Awakening, explores the meaning of duty, righteousness and moral responsibility through the lives of Swami Vivekananda and Rani Ahilyabai Holkar. The program highlights how both figures transformed faith into action and service, leaving lasting legacies of compassion and social reform.
The event will feature professionally choreographed dance, live music blending traditional and contemporary styles, historical storytelling and visual art displays. Organizers expect a large community turnout to celebrate Indian heritage and the arrival of spring through the Basant Bahar tradition.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m., with the program running from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, with seating available on a first come, first served basis. The Cary Arts Center, located at 101 Dry Avenue, is wheelchair accessible and offers ample parking.
Hum Sub is a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing Indian culture and heritage with the Triangle community through family-oriented cultural events that promote learning, diversity and inclusivity.

Cary Police Charge Maryland Woman in Elder Fraud Case
A woman from Silver Spring, Maryland, has been arrested following an investigation into the theft of more than $35,000 from an elderly Cary resident. According to a warrant filed by the Cary Police Department, the alleged theft occurred in September 2024.
Authorities say the suspect used the victim’s bank account information to open a Zelle account and carried out 34 transactions, transferring a total of $37,415. The activity went undetected for months before charges were filed.
The suspect was taken into custody Monday and now faces felony charges of exploiting an elder’s capacity and identity theft. She was given a $25,000 secured bond and is scheduled to make her first court appearance in Wake County on Wednesday.

Key Tips for Primary Election Day - Today!
Primary Election Day is here. Polls across North Carolina are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and voters in line at closing time will still be allowed to cast a ballot. If you plan to vote today, here are 10 key things to know before heading to the polls.
Understand how the primary works. Primary elections determine each political party’s nominees for the November general election. Democratic and Republican voters will receive their party’s ballot. Unaffiliated voters may choose either party’s ballot, or a nonpartisan ballot if one is available locally. Green and Libertarian voters may only vote a nonpartisan ballot, if offered in their jurisdiction.
Check your sample ballot before you go. Use the State Board of Elections Voter Search tool to review the exact contests on your ballot. Unaffiliated voters will see more than one ballot style and make their selection at check-in.
Go to your assigned polling place. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Voters must cast their ballot at their designated precinct. Anyone in line at 7:30 p.m. will still be allowed to vote. Find your polling place.
Bring an approved photo ID. Most voters use a North Carolina driver’s license, though other photo IDs are accepted. Voters without ID may complete an exception form or present valid ID at their county board of elections office by noon on Friday, March 6. visit BringItNC.gov
If you still have an absentee ballot, act quickly. Absentee ballots must be received by 7:30 p.m. today. If mailing it could delay delivery, return it directly to your county board of elections office. You may also discard your absentee ballot and vote in person instead.
Request a provisional ballot if needed. If your name does not appear on the voter rolls, you may ask for a provisional ballot. You can check its status about 10 days after the election using the state’s Provisional Search tool.
Know the registration rules. North Carolina does not offer same-day registration on Election Day. However, voters who became eligible after the registration deadline due to new citizenship or restored rights may register and vote today.
Ask for assistance if needed. Curbside voting is available for voters unable to enter the polling place due to age or disability. Election workers inside can also assist with voting procedures, see Help for Voters with Disabilities.
Help maintain a calm voting environment. Intimidation or interference at polling places is a crime. Voters who feel harassed should notify an election official immediately.
Follow results tonight. Unofficial results will be posted on the State Board of Elections website throughout election night, along with updates on reporting timelines. Election Results Dashboard
