Explore Page-Walker Arts & History Center

In the center of downtown Cary, the Page-Walker Arts & History Center offers a window into the town’s beginnings. The building, a restored 1868 railroad hotel constructed by Cary founder Allison Francis Page, stands as one of the community’s most recognizable historic landmarks. Designed in the Second Empire style, it once served rail passengers traveling through the region. Today, it serves residents and visitors as a gathering place for art, education, and local history.

The center houses multiple floors of galleries and exhibits, including the Cary Heritage Museum on the third floor. Rotating exhibitions feature work by regional artists, while historical displays trace Cary’s growth alongside the railroad that shaped it. The building also functions as an active cultural venue, hosting classes in language arts, music, wellness, and history, along with seasonal programs and small concerts in its 90-seat main hall.

Outside, the grounds extend the experience. The Anne B. Kratzer Educational Garden offers landscaped walking paths and interpretive features, while the preserved Page Smokehouse reflects everyday life in Cary’s early years. Through late summer 2025, visitors can view the David Guilliams Archaeology Collection in the lobby, which includes more than 60 Native American stone points and artifacts from early European settlement found locally.

With its hardwood floors, tall ceilings, and large windows, the Page-Walker Arts & History Center remains both historic site and community hub. Admission is free, and the site continues to serve as a quiet cultural anchor in a rapidly growing town.

Hello, Dublin!
Gateway to Crystal Waters and White Sand Paradise

Welcome to Dublin, Ireland, a city where centuries-old cathedrals share the skyline with lively pubs, cobblestone streets lead to world-class museums, and the warmth of the Irish people makes every visitor feel right at home.

Getting here from the Research Triangle just got a whole lot easier — Aer Lingus is launching nonstop flights from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to Dublin Airport (DUB) beginning in April 2026, marking the first direct connection from RDU to Ireland.

Whether you're drawn by ancient history, a love of great storytelling, or simply the promise of a perfectly poured Guinness, Dublin is a city that rewards every kind of traveler.

Why Visit Dublin?

  • The Guinness Storehouse: Ireland's most iconic beer has called this city home since 1759, and the Storehouse is where you get to experience the full story. Spread across seven floors, this multimedia attraction covers everything from retro advertising to the craft of brewing, and finishes with a pint in the 360-degree Gravity Bar.

  • Trinity College and the Book of Kells: One of Europe's most storied universities is right in the heart of the city, and it's open for visitors to explore. Founded in 1592 under Queen Elizabeth I, its alumni include Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker, and Samuel Beckett — and inside, you'll find the Book of Kells, a breathtaking 9th-century manuscript beautifully illustrated by monks.

  • The Wicklow Mountains National Park: Just a short drive south of the city, this stunning park offers a quick escape into wild Irish scenery. The Wicklow Mountains are one of the best things to do in Dublin, offering trails, sweeping vistas, and the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the early medieval monastic site at Glendalough.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A) George de Mestral

George de Mestral, a Swiss electrical engineer, is credited with inventing Velcro. He conceived the idea for the hook-and-loop fastener in 1941 after returning from a hunting trip in the Alps with his dog and noticing how burdock burrs stuck to his clothes and his dog's fur. Upon examining a burr under a microscope, de Mestral observed thousands of tiny hooks that attached to the small loops in his clothing and his dog's fur.

It took nearly 10 years of experimentation to perfect the design. He eventually found that nylon was the best material, as it was durable and could be manufactured into hooks.

He patented the invention in 1955.

"Velcro" is a portmanteau of the French words velours ("velvet") and crochet ("hook").
