Cary Appoints Interim Town Manager After Sudden Resignation
After placing Town Manager Sean Stegall on administrative leave in November, Cary officials accepted his resignation during an emergency meeting Monday and named Deputy Town Manager Russ Overton as his interim replacement. Stegall, who served in the role since 2016, will receive nearly $195,000 in severance pay.
The decision to place Stegall on leave followed a closed Town Council session citing personnel considerations and legal confidentiality. The council did not publicly disclose specific reasons for the move.
Overton, a longtime Cary employee, has held various roles since joining the town in 1998. His appointment is intended to ensure continuity and stability during the leadership transition.
Meanwhile, the Office of the State Auditor is conducting a preliminary review of Cary's municipal policies, though no further details have been released.
Just curious…
What’s your view on Cary’s leadership transition?
Sensory-Friendly Nutcracker Suite Comes to Cary Arts Center Dec. 19
On December 19, 2025, the Cary Ballet Company will stage a sensory-friendly version of The Nutcracker Suite at the Cary Arts Center. This one-hour narrated performance begins at 11 a.m. and is ideal for children and those new to ballet. The production offers a behind-the-scenes experience, starting with a mini class and a bare stage, followed by a transformation into the full ballet.
To ensure a comfortable environment for attendees with sensory sensitivities, the show will feature softer music, dimmed lighting, and a quiet space in the lobby for breaks. These adjustments make the performance more inclusive while preserving the essence of the holiday classic.
Tickets for the show are priced at $32 and can be purchased through RecTrac starting October 10. A companion event, the Ballerina Tea, will be hosted at The Gathering Place in Downtown Cary Park, with separate ticket sales beginning November 30.
The event is part of Cary’s broader effort to provide arts programming that welcomes all audiences, including those who may benefit from a more relaxed performance setting.
