Cary Council Adopts New AI and Data Governance Framework

At its October 23, 2025 meeting, Cary Town Council issued several ceremonial proclamations celebrating the town’s diversity and community engagement. October was designated as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, emphasizing digital safety amid rising cyber threats. The SV Temple was honored for its role in celebrating Diwali and serving the community, while Cary Band Day was recognized for its decades-long contribution to musical excellence and community spirit.

The Council heard public comments expressing opposition to several development proposals, particularly senior living and apartment projects near established neighborhoods. Residents cited concerns about environmental impacts, infrastructure strain, and traffic. A specific rezoning request for six single-family homes on Green Level Church Road also drew discussion, with residents urging careful planning for stormwater and traffic mitigation. Council members acknowledged these concerns and requested further review of potential traffic safety improvements.

Council approved an annexation request for a small property on High House Road, allowing access to Cary’s utilities.

In a key policy move, the Council adopted new guidelines for data governance and artificial intelligence. Staff described how the policies prioritize transparency, privacy, and human-centered design, with the goal of enabling responsible innovation. A cross-departmental committee will lead future efforts, and Council expressed support for periodic updates.

The meeting closed with a private session following completion of scheduled business

Final Fair Weekend and Concerts to Bring Major Congestion

The final weekend of the North Carolina State Fair coincides with two concerts at the nearby Lenovo Center, drawing tens of thousands of people to the Raleigh area. Officials expect substantial traffic and are encouraging visitors to plan ahead.

Police say early arrival is key to avoiding long delays, and they recommend using free shuttles from off-site parking locations. This approach has proven effective for many attendees during the first week of the fair.

Approximately 130,000 visitors typically attend the fair on its final Saturday, and this year, each of the two concerts could bring in an additional 20,000 people per night. To manage the increased flow, police recommend avoiding Trinity Road and instead using alternate routes such as Wade Avenue.

Visitors are also advised to carry only necessary items to streamline entry into both the fairgrounds and the concert venue. Read Full Story

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
The Cary Arts Center, located in the heart of downtown Cary, once served as Cary High School before becoming the vibrant cultural hub it is today. Restored and reopened in 2011, the center now hosts art classes, theater performances, exhibitions, and community events, symbolizing Cary’s transformation from a small railroad town into a thriving arts destination.
