At least three cases are under investigation by Wake Forest police, with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office reviewing an additional report. One driver described the frightening experience of having her windshield and hood struck while driving late at night, resulting in costly vehicle damage.

The incidents appear to be isolated to the Purnell Road area, but news of them has spread quickly online. Local residents are warning each other to stay vigilant, especially during nighttime travel. Cary Readers Share Top Sports Picks

In our latest reader poll review, Cary’s sports fans made their voices clear: football remains the town’s favorite sport to watch, with just over 40% of participants naming it their top pick. Whether it's Friday night lights, college Saturdays, or pro matchups on Sundays, football continues to unite a big portion of our audience.

But the love doesn’t stop there. Basketball and hockey each claimed strong followings, with more than 13% of votes apiece—suggesting that winter is still an exciting time for local fans. Meanwhile, soccer, baseball, and tennis each drew support from around 8–11% of readers.

Beyond the usual suspects, readers also shouted out some less mainstream favorites. Several pointed to auto racing, golf, and equestrian sports as must-watch events. And in a hometown twist, the NC Courage, Cary’s own professional women’s soccer team, earned praise for their “exceptional talent” and “exciting games.”

Some readers even championed rugby, Australian football, and darts, underscoring the wide-ranging tastes in our community. One thing’s for sure—Cary doesn’t lack for passionate fans across the sporting spectrum.

Most Residents Prefer Online Town Updates

Ahead of the upcoming District B Information Meeting at The Cary Theater, we asked readers how likely they are to attend a town or district meeting this year. The results reveal a strong preference for staying informed digitally over attending in person.

Nearly 44% of respondents said they usually follow town meeting updates online instead of going in person. This was the most common response, suggesting that digital channels may be the most effective way to reach residents with important town updates.

While about 19% said they plan to attend the October 21 meeting, and another 6% have attended in the past and plan to return, others expressed interest with logistical challenges—19% shared that they’re interested but can’t make this one.

Still, 13% indicated they’re not interested in attending these types of meetings at all.

One reader summed up the ambivalence some feel:

“I am lazy. It’s one of those things I know would be good for me to do, but I need to find the energy, the excitement.”

What This Means

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Mount Erebus, located on Ross Island in Antarctica, is the southernmost active volcano on Earth. Standing at 3,794 meters (12,448 feet), it is one of the few volcanoes with a persistent lava lake in its summit crater. Discovered in 1841, Mount Erebus is named after one of the ships from British explorer James Clark Ross’s expedition. Despite its harsh, icy surroundings, Erebus is continuously monitored by scientists to study its unique volcanic activity and extreme environment.
