Silver Moon Parade Returns with Community-Made Lanterns
Cary residents are invited to bring their creativity to light through a series of hands-on lantern-making workshops led by artist Gowri Savoor. These workshops, open to all experience levels, offer instruction in design, construction, lighting, and incorporating movement into lanterns.
Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their finished creations at the Under the Silver Moon Lantern Parade, scheduled for January 10 at Downtown Cary Park. The annual event has drawn hundreds of glowing lanterns in past years, creating a community-centered celebration of art and light.
Two workshop options are available. The Kinetic Lantern Workshop is a one-day session on Saturday, October 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a registration fee of $25. The Large Scale Lantern Workshop spans three days—November 1 and 2, and December 6—for a $75 fee. Both workshops will be held at the Bond Park Community Center.
Registration for each session can be completed online:
Kinetic Lantern Workshop – Oct. 18 ($25)
Large Scale Lantern Workshop – Nov. 1, 2 & Dec. 6 ($75)

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Null Island is not an actual island but a fictitious reference point located at the exact intersection of the Equator (0° latitude) and the Prime Meridian (0° longitude) in the Gulf of Guinea, off the west coast of Africa—specifically southwest of Ghana and west of Gabon. While there’s no landmass there, this point is often used in mapping systems and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) as a default location for data errors or missing coordinates. A weather buoy, part of the PIRATA ocean monitoring project, is stationed at the site.
