North Carolina to Install School Zone Speed Cameras

A new North Carolina law enables cities and counties to install speed cameras in school zones starting this fall. The measure, part of a broader transportation safety bill, is designed to reduce speeding near schools through automated enforcement.

The move comes in response to years of concern over traffic-related incidents in school zones, where hundreds of crashes and dozens of deaths have occurred. The cameras must be clearly marked with signage and will document speeding violations without requiring on-site police presence.

Violators will receive a citation by mail with a $250 fine but will not incur driver’s license points. Drivers have a month to respond before late fees or registration holds are applied. The law aims to create safer environments for students as they travel to and from school. Read Full Report

Local Rotary Clubs Use Oktoberfest to Raise Money for Charity

Triangle Oktoberfest is a prominent example of how local Rotary Clubs amplify their impact through community-centered events. With over $165,000 raised last year, the festival blends traditional German culture with inclusive programming to create a space that’s both fun and purposeful. Affordable ticketing and varied attractions help ensure accessibility for all ages.

Beyond its festivities, the event channels substantial support to charitable causes. Twenty percent of proceeds go to the Miracle League of the Triangle, with the rest distributed among local and global nonprofits. Previous donations have supported disaster relief efforts and community grants, demonstrating Rotary’s hands-on approach to philanthropy.

Rotary Clubs also use such events to recruit members and expand their influence. Clubs offer various meeting times and volunteer opportunities, making it easier for people to get involved. Membership provides a way for individuals to give back meaningfully, while also growing a network of civic-minded peers.

Triangle Oktoberfest’s continued success highlights the broader mission of Rotary: service through fellowship. By blending culture, charity, and community spirit, local clubs are driving a lasting impact throughout the Triangle region..

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
The Dead Sea is the saltiest body of water on Earth, with a salinity of around 34%, making it nearly ten times saltier than the ocean. Located at the lowest point on Earth’s surface—about 430 meters (1,410 feet) below sea level—it sits between Israel and Jordan. Due to its extreme salinity, no fish or aquatic life can survive, hence the name "Dead Sea." The mineral-rich waters and mud are famous for their therapeutic properties, attracting visitors from around the world for both health and relaxation.
