Hands-On AI Learning at the 2025 SAS Hackathon

AI continues to reshape the workplace by automating repetitive tasks and supporting complex decision-making, creating demand for workers with strong data and AI skills. The SAS Hackathon, now in its fifth year, aims to meet that demand by providing participants with practical, career-building experience.

The monthlong, fully digital event begins Sept. 15 and allows teams from around the world to address challenges in business and society using advanced analytics and AI. Participants receive access to SAS tools such as Viya, Viya Workbench, and Data Maker, which are designed to help teams build and test AI-driven solutions.

In previous years, hackathon teams have applied AI to improve worker safety, reduce medical billing errors, assess nuclear site risks, and strengthen supply chain oversight. Winners are selected by a panel of experts and recognized in industry and category tracks.

This year’s competition introduces a new student-focused track, where individuals can compete through an analytics simulation game called Cortex. Alongside this addition, industry-specific tracks remain available in areas like finance, health care, energy, and retail. The event is produced by SAS and sponsored by Microsoft and Intel.
