Hello, Bahamas!
Pristine Beaches and Underwater Adventures
Welcome to Freeport, Bahamas, a place where crystal-clear turquoise waters meet sugar-white sand beaches, where world-class shopping blends with laid-back island charm, and where some of the Caribbean's best diving spots are just offshore.
With direct flights from RDU (Raleigh-Durham) to Grand Bahama International Airport (FPO), this tropical paradise is just a short hop away from North Carolina. Whether you're seeking underwater exploration, duty-free shopping, or simply want to unwind on pristine beaches, Freeport delivers the perfect island getaway with modern conveniences.
Why Visit Freeport?
Lucayan National Park: Home to one of the longest underwater cave systems in the world, this 40-acre park protects both land and sea ecosystems. Explore mangrove creeks by kayak, hike nature trails through pine forests, or snorkel in Gold Rock Creek where the underwater caves create an otherworldly experience.
Port Lucaya Marketplace: This waterfront shopping and dining complex captures the heart of Bahamian culture with its colorful architecture and local crafts. Browse duty-free shops, sample conch fritters and rum cake, then dance to live Junkanoo music as the sun sets over the marina.
Peterson Cay National Park: Just a 20-minute boat ride from Freeport, this tiny uninhabited island offers some of the Bahamas' best snorkeling and diving. The surrounding coral reefs teem with tropical fish, sea turtles, and rays, making it feel like swimming in a natural aquarium.

Explore Page-Walker Arts & History Center

Step into the heart of Cary's history at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, where the past comes alive in a beautifully restored 1868 railroad hotel. Built by Cary's founder Allison Francis Page, this charming Second Empire-style building has welcomed travelers, residents, and now visitors for over 150 years. The center spans multiple floors of art galleries, historical displays, and elegant event spaces, making it the perfect place to connect with local culture and learn how the railroad shaped this growing community.
Whether you're browsing rotating art exhibitions by regional artists or exploring the Cary Heritage Museum on the third floor, there's something to capture everyone's interest. The center offers classes in language arts, music, wellness, and history, plus special events throughout the year like Herbfest, Victorian Christmas celebrations, and intimate concerts in the acoustically excellent main hall that seats up to 90 people.
Don't miss the outdoor spaces that make this destination truly special. The beautifully landscaped Anne B. Kratzer Educational Garden and historic Page Smokehouse provide peaceful spots to stroll and learn about local history. Look for historical artifacts in the lobby display case - through late summer 2025, you can see the David Guilliams Archaeology Collection featuring over 60 Native American stone points and early European settlement artifacts discovered right here in Cary.
The center's elegant hardwood floors, high ceilings, and large windows create a warm atmosphere perfect for families, history buffs, and anyone seeking a quiet cultural experience. Pick up a souvenir at the Page-Walker Store or simply enjoy the garden views from this hidden gem in downtown Cary.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Snakes use their forked tongues to collect scent particles from the air and ground, helping them "smell" their surroundings. By flicking their tongues and drawing particles into a special organ in the roof of their mouth called the Jacobson’s organ (or vomeronasal organ), they can detect prey, find mates, and navigate their environment with remarkable accuracy—even in complete darkness.
