Big Changes Coming to Cary’s Local Elections
If you missed the recent Cary Town Hall, one of the most important updates was about how and when we vote in local elections. Here’s what every Cary resident should know:.
✅ Back to “Plurality” Voting
Cary is returning to the “plurality” method used before 2001 — meaning:
The candidate with the most votes wins, even if they don’t receive more than 50%.
No runoff elections will be held.
🗓️ Key Dates for the 2025 Election
Early Voting: October 16 – November 1
Two Cary early voting sites will be open from October 25 – November 1:
Wake County: Herbert C. Young Community Center
Chatham County: New Hope Baptist Church
Election Day: Tuesday, November 4, 2025 | Local Election Info
🪑 What’s on the Ballot?
Three seats will be decided: 1 At-Large seat, District A, District C
💡 Why It Matters
Easier to understand: The candidate with the most votes wins — simple and straightforward.
No runoffs mean quicker results and less cost to the Town and taxpayers.
Every vote counts more than ever — with no second round of voting, one strong showing can decide the race.
Voters need to be aware and active in the first round, because there won’t be a second chance to weigh in.

Cary High Student Scores Perfect 36 on ACT
Sophie Laurenceau-Breton, a student at Cary High School, has joined a small group of students nationwide by earning a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. The composite score is based on performance in English, math, reading, and science.
In the 2024 graduating class, more than 1.3 million students took the ACT, but only 3,041 reached the top score. Laurenceau-Breton’s result places her in the top 0.2 percent of all test-takers.
Achieving a perfect ACT score is widely regarded as a strong indicator of college readiness and can significantly enhance college admission prospects. It also often increases access to scholarships and elite academic programs.
The accomplishment has been recognized by ACT officials as a milestone worth celebrating, both for the student and the Cary community. Read Full Report

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Pi Approximation Day is celebrated on July 22nd because the fraction 22/7 is a common and close approximation of the mathematical constant π (pi). While Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3.14), this alternative celebration honors the fractional representation of pi.
