I’m so glad I found this gem of a place! Drew is so kind and his store is full of amazing goodies with fantastic organization. I’ve always been a fan of thrift shops, but this one in particular is wonderful as it feels extra inclusive and also supports local causes.” -Tara Ott-Donahue

New Wake County System Alerts Owners to Property Filings—but Only If They Sign Up

Wake County has launched a new land recording system, accompanied by an updated fraud alert feature aimed at notifying property owners if filings are made under their name. The system went live this week at the Register of Deeds office, marking a significant modernization of how property records are processed and monitored in the county.

The rollout follows heightened concern over deed fraud, an issue that captured attention earlier this year when a woman was accused of filing a false warranty deed in an attempt to claim a Raleigh dentist’s multimillion-dollar home. In that case, the homeowner spent months in civil court to have the fraudulent deed invalidated—a reminder of how vulnerable even well-documented properties can be.

Although the fraud alert system itself remains functionally the same—sending notifications when a document is recorded under a registered name—property owners must re-enroll to receive alerts. Previous users will not be automatically transferred into the new system.

Registration is available on the Wake County Register of Deeds website.

Officials say the ability to make real change in fraud prevention is currently limited by state law. While efforts are underway to introduce protective legislation, the burden for now remains on property owners to monitor their records. Read Full Report

Dog’s Death in Cary Motel Parking Lot Leads to Felony Charge

In a tragic Easter Sunday incident, a Raleigh man was arrested by Cary police after his dog died from being left inside a locked vehicle in high temperatures. The dog was reportedly inside the car for three hours at a Motel 6 parking lot before police were called around 6 p.m. Despite swift response, the dog was found unresponsive, and the temperature inside the car was estimated to be well over 100 degrees.

The suspect, Jesse Roland Hagan Jr., 64, is facing a felony charge of animal cruelty. During his court appearance, a Wake County judge set bond at $15,000, with a condition that he not own any animals if released.

Animal control officials stressed that any animal left in a hot car constitutes an emergency and should be reported immediately to 911. With temperatures rising across the region, pet owners are reminded that even short periods in parked cars can be fatal for animals.

Cary Soccer Fans Show Up—But Wins Elude Courage and NCFC

Despite a surge in fan support at WakeMed Soccer Park, both of Cary’s professional soccer teams came up short over the weekend. The North Carolina Courage played in front of a lively crowd of 7,049 on Saturday evening—marking their fifth straight match with a top-10 regular season turnout—but couldn’t convert their momentum into goals, falling 1-0 to Bay FC.

A stunning long-range strike in the 33rd minute by a former Courage player proved the difference, despite the home side’s early pressure and near-miss chances.

The match also marked the return of veteran midfielder Dani Weatherholt, who stepped back onto the pitch late in the second half following a stint on injured reserve.

Meanwhile, North Carolina FC, the men’s squad, faced another tough test on the road. Playing at Miami’s FIU Pitbull Stadium, the team went down by two goals early but found a glimmer of hope just before halftime with defender Paco Craig’s header—his first of the season. That momentum carried into the second half, but despite a flurry of shots, NCFC couldn't find the equalizer and dropped their second straight road game.

The Courage will regroup at home next weekend with a match against Kansas City, while NCFC prepares to host Charlotte Independence in a heated local rivalry as part of the new USL Jägermeister Cup.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇

Tyrian purple, also known as imperial purple, was once more valuable than gold due to its rarity and labor-intensive production. This rich dye was made from the mucus of sea snails found in the Mediterranean, requiring thousands of snails to produce just a single gram. In ancient times, it was a symbol of wealth and power—often reserved for royalty and emperors, especially in the Roman Empire.
