SPCA Wake Is Warning The Community

Wake County pet owners searching for their lost animals are being targeted by scammers using caller ID spoofing to impersonate SPCA Wake, veterinary hospitals, or law enforcement. The scam preys on emotional vulnerability, tricking owners into believing their pet has been found with severe injuries requiring urgent medical treatment.

Scammers demand immediate payments, often totaling thousands of dollars, threatening that the pet will be euthanized if funds are not received right away. The fraudulent scheme exploits pet owners’ fears, creating a sense of panic and urgency that leads victims to comply.

SPCA Wake is warning the community to stay alert and take steps to protect themselves:

  • Do not engage with suspicious calls—hang up immediately.

  • Verify information by calling the organization directly using its official phone number.

  • Report scam attempts to 311 to help authorities track the fraud.

Officials emphasize that SPCA Wake will never demand payment over the phone, urging residents to remain cautious and skeptical of unexpected calls regarding missing pets. Read Full Report

Pickleball’s Biggest Stars Return to Cary for PPA Tour’s North Carolina Open

Pickleball enthusiasts in Cary will once again have the chance to see the sport’s biggest names in action as the PPA Tour’s North Carolina Open returns to Cary Tennis Park from April 1-6. Featuring top-ranked players Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns, the event is expected to draw large crowds after last year’s record-breaking attendance.

The tournament isn’t just for the professionals—amateur players can register to compete on the same courts as the pros. Those hoping to participate must register by March 28 to secure their spot.

For fans, tickets for professional matches are already on sale through Tixr, offering a chance to experience the excitement of championship-level pickleball up close.

The return of the PPA Tour highlights Cary’s growing role as a major sports destination. Known for hosting elite tennis tournaments and Olympic training camps, the town’s reputation continues to grow alongside its top-tier athletic facilities. Cary Tennis Park, home to 32 championship courts, has earned accolades, including the 2019 USTA Featured Facility honor.

Beyond the courts, Cary’s dining, accommodations, and community engagement make it an attractive stop for athletes and spectators alike. With pickleball surging in popularity, the North Carolina Open offers a unique opportunity for local players and fans to engage with the sport on a professional level.

Special Request: Consider Supporting High-Poverty Schools

When you sign up, you can select any high school to receive your support. However, I encourage you to consider choosing one of North Carolina’s schools in high-poverty areas, where extra funding can make a big difference.

Some of the least equitable school districts in North Carolina include:
🏫 Henderson County Schools
🏫 Alexander County Schools
🏫 Beaufort County Schools
🏫 Elkin City Schools

Additionally, Washington County is the poorest county in North Carolina, with a poverty rate of 21.6%. The median household income is $38,927, significantly lower than the state average of $66,186. Choosing a school in one of these districts can help provide much-needed resources for students and athletes who need it most.

With NFHS Network, you’re not just watching—you’re investing in the future of high school athletics and ensuring young athletes get the recognition they deserve. So why not grab this special deal and catch the next big game?

Just curious…

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇

Frida Kahlo's "Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird" (1940) is a profound reflection of her personal anguish following her divorce from Diego Rivera and the end of her affair with photographer Nickolas Muray.

In this work, Kahlo presents herself wearing a thorn necklace that rests against her skin, symbolizing pain, while a hummingbird pendant, often associated with love, hangs inert, perhaps indicating her despondence.

A black cat, an omen of bad luck, and a monkey, a gift from Rivera, perch on her shoulders, adding layers of personal symbolism. The dense foliage background further emphasizes her sense of entrapment and isolation. This painting is part of the Nickolas Muray collection at the Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin.
