Tornadoes in North Carolina:
What You Need to Know
Tornadoes may not be as frequent in North Carolina as in the Midwest, but the state still averages 29-31 tornadoes annually, according to data from the National Weather Service and N.C. State University. Tornado season peaks from March through May, and these storms can form quickly, leaving little time for preparation.
Some of the most destructive tornadoes in recent years include:
2023: An EF-3 tornado in Nash County injured 16 people, damaged over 100 properties, and destroyed part of a Pfizer plant.
2021: A tornado in Ocean Isle Beach resulted in three deaths and multiple injuries.
2019: A tornado in Greensboro caused extensive damage to over 1,000 buildings.
Scientists suggest that tornado activity in the Southeastern U.S. is increasing, making preparedness more important than ever.
Staying Safe: What to Do
Residents are encouraged to enable emergency weather alerts on their phones, pay close attention to forecasts, and develop a tornado safety plan.
Key safety measures include:
Knowing the signs of a tornado, such as a funnel cloud, debris cloud, large hail, or loud roaring sound.
Taking cover in a basement or, if unavailable, an interior, windowless room on the lowest level of a sturdy building.
Avoiding vehicles, overpasses, and bridges, as these can be dangerous shelter options during a tornado.
Understanding the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning can also help residents respond appropriately:
A watch signals that tornadoes are possible. Stay alert.
A warning means a tornado has been spotted—take immediate cover.
With severe weather patterns shifting, staying informed and having a plan can make all the difference when a tornado threat arises in North Carolina. Read Full Report

Cary Police Issue Alert for Missing 54-Year-Old Man

Credit: Cary Police Department
Cary police are seeking assistance in locating Theodore Moore Jr., a 54-year-old resident of the Normandy Group Home who was reported missing after walking away from the facility on Monday.
Moore had only recently arrived at the group home on February 28 and is unfamiliar with the area. Authorities have stated that he suffers from a mental illness and may be in need of care. While there is no confirmed clothing description, police report that he was recently shaven bald with a trimmed mustache in his most recent appearance.
Law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information regarding Moore’s whereabouts to contact the Cary Police Department at 919-469-4012. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any potential sightings. Read Full Report
Carolina Hurricanes Celebrate 100 Consecutive Home Sellouts
The Carolina Hurricanes will reach a remarkable milestone Thursday night, recording 100 consecutive sellouts at Lenovo Center—a streak that began in February 2023 and includes both regular-season and playoff games. The achievement highlights the deep loyalty of Caniacs, whose presence has helped establish the arena as one of the toughest venues for visiting teams.
During this period, the Hurricanes have dominated on home ice, leading the NHL in regular-season home victories. The sellout streak is a testament to the passionate fan base that continues to fuel the team’s success.
As the Hurricanes prepare for the final stretch of the season and a potential playoff run, the unwavering support inside Lenovo Center remains a crucial element of their competitive edge. The milestone not only showcases the team’s strong connection with its fans but also solidifies the Hurricanes’ standing as a premier franchise in the league.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, affectionately known as "The Notorious RBG," was an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, celebrated for her steadfast advocacy for gender equality and civil rights. The moniker "Notorious RBG" emerged in 2013, inspired by her powerful dissents, notably in cases like Shelby County v. Holder, which addressed voting rights.
This nickname, a playful nod to the rapper The Notorious B.I.G., was popularized by a Tumblr blog created by then-law student Shana Knizhnik. The blog's success led to the bestselling book "Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg," co-authored by Knizhnik and journalist Irin Carmon. Ginsburg embraced this persona, becoming a cultural icon symbolizing resilience and justic
