Snowstorm Readiness: Cary Adjusts Operations and Shares Safety Tips
Cary is readying itself for the arrival of snow, the first in over 1,000 days, with Snow Command activated early Friday morning to coordinate street treatments. Public facilities, including community centers and Downtown Cary Park Guest Services, will close early on Friday and are expected to reopen by noon Saturday.
GoCary transit suspended service at 1 p.m. Friday, with the Downtown Loop route also canceled. The Citizen's Convenience Center will close Saturday, and the NC Chinese Lantern Festival at Koka Booth Amphitheatre will adjust ticketing to accommodate Friday’s closure.
Town crews will prioritize treating and plowing main roads, followed by neighborhood streets, as snow accumulation exceeds one inch. Private parking lots and commercial centers will not receive treatment.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for potential weather-related disruptions by securing water shut-off valves, avoiding street parking, and reporting downed trees or power outages to the appropriate authorities.
For real-time updates and safety tips, residents can follow Cary on social media or visit the town's website. Winter Weather Information
Winter Storm Warning in Effect: Snow, Sleet, and Ice Expected in Central NC
Central North Carolina is under a Winter Storm Warning starting Friday afternoon as snow, sleet, and freezing rain are forecast to impact the region through Saturday. The National Weather Service has highlighted the risk of icy roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, across 28 counties, including Wake, Durham, and Johnston.
Snow and sleet accumulations could reach up to three inches, especially in areas north of Interstate 85, while ice accumulation is projected between one-tenth and two-tenths of an inch. However, increasing concerns about higher ice totals have raised the possibility of downed trees and power outages.
Residents are advised to prepare for potential disruptions and monitor updates as the forecast may change leading into the weekend. The storm is expected to bring a mix of wintry precipitation, with travel likely becoming hazardous overnight on Friday and into Saturday. Read Full Report
